I'm hoping for some locals' recommendations on bringing my bike to Kauai on a two week trip over Christmas and New Year's.

Will the weather be good enough for riding? From what I've figured, average December rainfall is about five times more than July! I'd assume there'll be drier trails on the west side and down by Poipu - will be willing to drive a bit, but will be staying a week in Kapaa, a few days at Koke'e, Anini, Polihale, and would imagine there'd be good options around there, too.

Also, any recommendations on a safe place to drop the bike off for safekeeping on non-ride days? We're campers, and might not be able to assure a safe place for it 24/7. I've gotten good vibes from the Kapaa bike shop... maybe others around the island? I've become a little concerned with gear after our June trip, when the rental car got broken into at the Princeville trailhead for the Powerline Trail. :(

I'll have lots of time to ride; my wife will be 7 mo. pregnant by then, and not want more than a mellow place to chill!

Mahalo you blessed Kauaians!

Weather is hit or miss on Kauai. Could be brochure-weather...could rain 3 inches in one day.

Plan on lots of mud. Check out MTBR trail reviews for Kealia and Kalepa, that'll be the driest singletrack any time of year.

Lots of dry dirt roads in western Kokee/Waimea Canyon State Parks, but all trails are closed to bikes.

Shops in Lihue or Kapaa could hold your bike if they're willing. You can trust either one.
