View Full Version : 29" MAVERICK DUC 32 Fork & ML7 Frame
highrustler 10-13-2004, 08:46 AM Imagine the DUC 32 fork for your 29'r... Wow! Here's my email with Paul Turner.
Hi James,
We will do a 29'r version of both later this year. It has been all we can do to get the std version on-line. Can't do everything at once.
-Paul
Howdy Paul,
I wondered if you would ever consider offering the ML7 & DUC 32 in a 29" version. I love your frame and fork dearly but not enough to go back to small wheels.
Cheers,
James
highrustler 10-13-2004, 08:49 AM would be an amazing 29" setup!
banks 10-13-2004, 08:51 AM James, I got word from inside at Fisher that Paul was making a 29" version for Gary last year. I never heard waht came out of it. I have been hittin' Frank Scurlock hard below the belt on the 29" gig too for a year.
I just got the SC32 5" single crown fork for my Klein Palomino and it's WAAAYYYY stiff!!

Alta825 10-13-2004, 08:51 AM concerning the fork and 29ers. Spoke w/ Frank at the on-dirt demo and he said it'd be pretty simple to reduce the stock travel slightly w/ spcers to make it 29" compatible still w/ 80-110mm travel. HHMMMMMM
a nice cake 10-13-2004, 09:33 AM I just got the SC32 5" single crown fork for my Klein Palomino and it's WAAAYYYY stiff!!
Are they for sale to the general public now? how much?
bigwheelboy_490 10-13-2004, 09:35 AM Wouldn't you need to have the head tube on your frame reinforced to handle having a triple clamp fork mounted? What about reduced steering?
Cloxxki 10-13-2004, 09:47 AM Gary told me about his Maverick idea long time ago. I believe it even happened, but never heard in-depth how it rode.
Wouldn't that frame have a canoe sized chainstay in 29"?
~martini~ 10-13-2004, 10:10 AM ohhhhhhhh.
Crap. There goes Sidra's college funds...
Like HR, I LOVE the Maverick design(rides amazing IMO), but not enough to get it in small wheels. I had a chance to ride the Double crown fork a few weeks back and it simply blew me away. Super stiff, and bump eating performance that was hard to believe, yet fo 6" travel fork, climbed OK. Now that the SC32 is out...my Hunter may be on the block so I can get a bike that that fork would be appropriate for...maybe.
Sweetest news this season so far me thinks.

I also spoke to them (Ariel?).... he pulled a display fork apart and showed me exactly how to reduce the travel.
 :D

Read about the DUC which has No steerer tube. It's not what you think as a trip clamp.
the 411:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The DUC32 represents the finest in All-Mountain Fork technology. It combines the weight of an XC fork with the steering precision and performance found in a DH/Free ride forks.
DESCRIPTION:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Fork has 6" (150mm) of air sprung, oil damped travel. Run it open at six inches while riding or, with the flick of a switch, reduce it to 4" (100mm) of travel while climbing technical terrain.
The Upper tubes and lower crown are welded together, a much lighter and stiffer method of building then bolting or pressing the legs into the crown (50mm welded aluminum uppers, 32mm hard anodized aluminum lowers).
External rebound adjustment.
Proprietary Design, True Quick Release, Front Loading.
Maverick's integrated stem (included) bolts directly to the upper crown. Three stem lengths are available: 70mm, 90mm, and 105mm. Stem weight: 130 grams.
The upper crown is available in three different profiles: low, medium and high, to fit a variety of frame sizes.
Stanchion Guards included.
Fork weight, including upper crown is 1588 grams (3.5 lbs).
Maverick Hub with 24 mm axle available separately (244 grams).
Build Height (Axle to Crown Race): 517.4mm.
Ride Height (with recommended 35-40mm sag): 477.4 to 482.4mm.

the 24mm HUB
Maverick's 24mm hub utilizes an axle, which is built into the hub and does not slide through. Our axle design bulges to 27mm in
the center, resulting in an axle that is roughly twice as stiff as a 20mm
thru-axle. Because of this design, the inner diameter of the Maverick
dropout is slightly undersized and actually expands to wrap around the
axle when the dropouts are closed. This results in a 100%
contact between the axle and the dropouts. By knurling the axle,
we also provide a mechanical tooth to further resist
twisting at the dropouts

I still ride my palomino occasionally and really love it, but only for trails where my rigid 29er will kill my arms on the downhills, and have been torn about buying the new sc32 fork for it...even went to the shop to find out when and how much for it...but now if they are going to offer an entire 29er! can you say state university for the kiddies!
Soupboy 10-13-2004, 02:06 PM ...spacer thing a bit more. Anyone have even a caveman diagram of how best to do it?
Secondarily, who thinks a KM HT could take the leverage imposed by this DC?
That would be a sick SS fork. I sent an email to Maverick in early summer about simply truncating travel in the current fork to 4" and got no response. Me very sad.

nightfire 10-13-2004, 02:48 PM I am going to have a word with My local Maverick dealer and get one on order!
Wow.
P::..
NO...definitely not a 29er frame...no, not in the near future, no not in the foreseable future...but they are putting together a spacer kit with detailed instructions that will fit either one of their forks and will simply reduce the overall travel thus making sure a 29 wheel won't bottom out! the sc32 is the single crown fork and is suppossed to be out in stores in about 2 weeks or less! it does require a special hub though...
and by the way, the guy that I spoke to knew exactly what I was talking about and was very polite to someone who just stepped in off the street.
highrustler 10-14-2004, 01:42 PM Well, I guess Paul Turner was BS-ing me, because the above email reply was from Tuesday 10/12/04.

I did just literally walk in off the street and ask the first guy I saw about it. Although, the guy I spoke to knew exactly what I was talking about when i brought up 29ers...maybe he just isn't in the loop yet...man i sure hope i'm wrong...i spent the whole way back home thinking of different arguements to justify buying one maverick fork and building up a 29 wheel for when i want to put it on my 9er, and building a 26 wheel for my palomino...and actually switching the shock back and forth every time...which isn't much actually...
highrustler 10-14-2004, 01:56 PM I would tend to believe the owner of the company as opposed to someone else. Time will tell. Regardless, we should ride sometime! I'm in Boulder too!
