My trusty Rhyno XL rear rim is going to be giving up the ghost soon after more than a year of hard riding. I recently broke a spoke and my LBS says that the rim has a bend in it and cannot be trued or tensioned correctly. The rim does not have any visible dents or bends, but when it is put in the truing stand, and the spokes are tensioned up, it is no longer straight. Now there are two spokes in my wheel that have almost no tension on them, and this is the best that LBS said this wheel can get and still be true. They said I should ride until it fails. I have been looking having a new set of hoops built up for my bike, and I am thinking about the Singletracks. I have ran Rhynos on the last three bikes that I have owned and have had great luck with them, I'm thinking of the singletrack because I run discs only, the singletracks are slightly wider, and I like the way that they look. Are these good wheels, are they as strong as the Rhyno XL's. I weigh 210 and ride hard with trail sized drops max 5'. I have rarely had to have my wheels trued so I guess I have became a smooth rider over the years. Please give me your ideas on this matter. I will be running 36h rims. My LBS wants me to use alloy nipples to save weight, but I have heard that the alloy nipples become corroded and are not able to be adjusted after many months of use?
