Lurking around other sites I found another recent half substitue for the derrailleur... or should I call it another iteration of the derrailleur.

It's a kind of mix between a derrailleur and a g-boxx. It's just a derrailleur installed in a box in the middle of the frame. The cranks move a splined shaft with a cog that slides onto and then a chain sends the force to a normal cassette mounted on an output shaft which in turn moves the cog at the wheel.

The heart of it is the derrailleur which is a compact version of the current one. And judging by the pictures it seems to be low normal. But it could be neutral by using springs of both sides of the sliders of the derrailleur.

It looks like very good for FR, DH and at flat zones.... but a definitive sustitue of a derrailleur is still missing.

It looks like being cheaper than a g-boxx and the rolhoff but who knows. Hayes bought the patent.

What you gals/lads think???

Here are some pics.....

Wow, looks good!! The humble derailure might have some life left in it after all. Really the only main disadvantage to the derailure is the position it is put in on the bike, which makes is very subceptable to the elements and damage. By getting it out of the way like that (and into a semi-sealed system) it could be a new lease of life.

Do you have any more links/pics?? I'll do a search in a minute and see what else I can find.

Thanks.

Cheers, Dave.

Man, for the additional weight of that system, I'll just stick to the current method... Urban assault is about the only place I see this as an improvement.

There's no much about it. I only found that it was presented at the "European Interbike", the Friedrichschaffen Bike Expo by Be One bikes nad Hayes. But no much more. Maybe at the US patent office.

Weight might be an issue... but the system is limited indeed also. It's just that, intended for DH, FR and grannys going round the block. But if you combine it with a three or five speed gearhub... then you have a winning formula, but 'm not sure what the ratios should be like.

It's got a straight chainline. Is this the derailleur for single speeders?
