Heading up to Omaha for a meeting at 11:30 on Wednesday morning. I'm thinking about heading up early and either getting a ride in Wednesdya morning, taking a shower and hitting the meeting or heading up for the meeting, riding and then heading back to KC.

Any suggestions on trails would be great. I've ridden Indian Caves already. It's a bit out of my way and I'm looking for more singletrack than doubletrack.

Check out the Lewis and Clark Trails in Council Bluffs if you want some steep St. Joseph State Park type riding, or Swanson Park in Omaha if you'd rather ride flat tight twisty trails.

have fun !

You definitely want to check out either Platte River State Park or Lewis and Clark Monument in Council Bluffs.

Swanson Park is okay as an "afterwork" type self-contained ride, but if I were coming from KC and only could choose one trail to ride, it certainly would not be Swanson.

All three are nice trails, but I think Platte or Lewis and Clark has alot more to offer than Swanson.

Swanson would only be an option if you want something quick and self-contained. You can run a lap here at a moderate pace in a half hour.

Platte and Lewis and Clark require a good 1 1/2 hours to ride. At least for me they do. But I'm slow.

Pawndream's right, I would also highly recommend Platte River and Lewis and Clarke over Swanson. Platte River offers more technical riding than does Lewis and Clarke, but you have to know where to look if you want to find the rock gardens etc. Lewis and Clarke is still a good ride though, as it is mostly single track with some great climbs and quick descents.

Am I missing something or just spoiled? Lewis and Clark is listed as 4 miles. Is this correct?

Short... steep ... very much like Krug Park ( been there ?). And Platte River doesn't have much more.

Yes Ken .... you are spoiled in KC..... How many miles of trail does Landahl boast these days ? The couple of years i lived there it was the best place to go, i seem to remember an extensive system of no more than 7-10 miles.

Platte River is about 10-15 miles of riding depending on how you link up the trail. It is quite a bit more than Lewis and Clark.

Lewis and Clark is about 5 miles of riding. But it is very steep in spots and will seem like a lot more.

Swanson Park used to be a solid 7 mile loop before Mt. Landfill was made offlimits a few years ago due to erosion issues. You can now squeeze out about a 5-6 mile loop depending on how you ride it.

Mile for mile, Platte is the place to be.

I have my choice of over 150 miles of singletrack within 45 minutes drive of my front door. Landahl has right around 20 miles these days. I don't get out there that often, since there are other, closer trails to me.

Krug has changed a bit in the past two years. It's still plenty steep, but the trail steward up there has added 2-3 miles and the trails are much more flowing these days.

Speaking of Krug, they're working on a plan for a 30 mile trail system with Krug incorporated. It's going to be very cool when complete. We're going to be doing a lot of trail building in the KC area this season. Including Krug and Lake of the Ozarks State Park, we're planning on adding over 50 miles of trails to our trail system this winter.

I bailed on riding today because I was worried about the rain. The next time I'm up, I'll plan on hitting Platte and perhaps Lewis and Clark.
