I'm going to get a GPS unit and need some help on deciding on which make/model to get. All I plan to use it for is locating specific points on trails so I can get the land manager to pre-place supplies for work days.
Any suggestions?

If you just want to get a way point at a location, just about any GPS will work. If you want a GPS that's small and bullet proof for your handlebars, try the Garmin eTrex line. The Garmin Geko line is the smallest and lowest cost with less features, but can do what you want. You get a lot more features (maps, memory, computer interface, compass, altimeter, color, larger screen, ...) as you go from $100 to $200, but what you describe is handled by the least cost unit. Another major brand is Magellen but I'm not as familiar with them. Here's some useful links for more research.

(The National Geographic maps are good for downloading tracks to overlay in color for printing on your computer. Garmin also has a full USA Topo maps that have the advantage in that you can dowload their topo maps to some models with enough memory.)
