Poor Farm is generally drier than the trails up here so I was wondering if anyone knows what Poor farm is like right now. I was thinking of going down Sunday so that'll give a few days for more dry time.

Cheers,
Kristina

Considering it rained again today, it's probably still going to be pretty wet. I live about 10 min. from poor farm and I can't even get the puddles in my driveway to dry out. Hope that helps some.

I live in MD, and I usually ride Schaeffer. I was thinking of heading up there this weekend, but I think it'll be closed. I'm totally dying for a ride...these road rides on my hardtail are really getting old. If poor farm is close to the bethesda area, I may check it out. Thanks.

With any luck the trails on the high side of accotink will be dry enough by late Sunday/Monday as they get some sun. Other than that it is still real goey out there and lots of ice where the sun does not reach.

Be careful out there. I was making coffee yesterday morning and looked out the kitchen window to see some one sprawed out on the side of the road. A lady running around accotink slip on the ice and broke her shoulder a few yards from my house. She refused an ambulance and a neighbor got her home as I could not support her weight on a bum limb myself. And now an ambulance is back, by the pool this time. Normally I would not notice these things but the lights are just bouncing off the walls.

Oh bummer! I didn't realize it rained there today. We didn't get any precip so that's why I was hoping it was starting to dry out.

thegood- Poor Farm is down by King's Dominion. If you're really itching for a ride, and you know everything around here is a mess, its worth the drive, well, for me it is anyway. :)

Yeah, I was thinking with all of the ice melting and re-freezing, it'll be at least another week before all the ice is gone. Alot of those trails are under shade so it might be a while before they clear up, too.

Blech, I really, really hate this stuff! :(

It's supposed to get below freezing for a few nights around Sunday/Monday, so it will be rideable then up to 10am or so I'm betting. That's the only way I have been able to ride at all these past weeks.

With any luck the trails on the high side of accotink will be dry enough by late Sunday/Monday as they get some sun. I think everyone who thinks any area trail besides Gambrill will be rideable in the near future (unless frozen) is being delusional. Over the past month or two we got a ton of rain which saturated the ground to the point of it being unable to absord any more water. Before the trails could even begin to drain or dry, things froze up and trapped the moisture in the ground. Then we got over a foot of accumulated snow that has been melting over the past few days.

If we had above freezing weather for two straight weeks you might be able to ride some of the area trails but Avalon and trails like it would probably still be off limits.

My 2 pesos. Sorry if I'm sounding like the scrouge, but I'm tired of seeing the local trails get trashed over the past several years.

It's also amazing what some people will considerable "rideable". I'm hoping to get
some early morning "pre thaw" rides in locally when I don't have a lot of time.

I guess I'll just be "forced" to ride in Gambrill :)

Some friends returned a little while ago from an early, 7am pre-thaw ride at accotink and commented that it is only rideable early with the frozen ground. Although they said that their were deep ruts left by those who rode it while under water. Most likely no one on this board.

Now the temps are up and it is too muddy to ride. If your tired of riding on the road, please go early before it thaws and ride lightly. These trails are often used in muddy conditions and abused by local traffic, which is making it more and more difficult to repair the damage caused.

Spring fixing is always so much fun. We'll have to plan a tail rehab party in coming months.
