EvelMtber 09-13-2004, 07:23 PM There are a few words that describe the 2005 line. Diablo, carbon fiber, beefy hardtails, Xenith, Xenith (again), Eclipse, and Trilogy...oh and BAD A**. We need pics, foo'! DestroyerOfSenses 09-14-2004, 07:50 AM Yes, a picture is worth a thousand words...but I don't have a pic to show you (yet)....So, how about just a thousand words? Word of the day is......Diablo. There are no specs given out yet, but it looks to have a Manitou Sherman and Saint components. Totally new frame, nothing like the Dakars. Looks to have some nice beefy bearings in all four pivots. No specs are given, so if you really wanna be the first know you gotta get your a** to Interbike. Also, all 2005 Dakars will have beefier bearings in tha pivots. The Dakar Pro and Expert will have the same Kinesium tripple butted mainframe, but with a carbon fiber bell crank and seatstays. Thats not all. Stay tuned. EvelMtber 09-14-2004, 04:26 PM Thanks DOS! I was wondering when Jamis would do something like the Diablo. DestroyerOfSenses 09-14-2004, 08:12 PM Here is the computer generated pic. An actual photo is not available for another few weeks. Wolverine 09-15-2004, 09:40 AM Keep supplying the pictures and information. Any rumors about Jamis doing trade-in's on '04 Dakar XLT's for the new Diablo? DestroyerOfSenses 09-15-2004, 09:19 PM 2005 Komodo FX 2.0 DestroyerOfSenses 09-15-2004, 09:25 PM 2005 Komodo FX 1.0 Sorry for the crappy quality. DestroyerOfSenses 09-15-2004, 09:51 PM 2005 Dakar Pro Upgrades/changes include: -Carbon Fiber Bell Crank (also on '05 Dakar Expert) -Carbon FIber Seat Stays (also on '05 Dakar Expert) -Beefier Pivot Bearings (All Dakars) -Hutchinson Bulldog TRC Kelvar Tires -Crank Bros. Candy C pedals (also on Dakar XLT 3.0/2.0, Dakar Expert, Dragon, and Dakota XC) NicQc 09-16-2004, 06:00 AM Any pics & specs for the 2005 XLT ? DestroyerOfSenses 09-16-2004, 07:27 AM NicQc, That reminds me. There is a new Dakar XLT. There's a Dakar XLT, Dakar XLT 1.0, Dakar XLT 2.0, and Dakar XLT 3.0. Count 'em, four. The new Dakar XLT has the same frame as all the other XLT's in Ano Black. It comes with: Rear Shock - Fox Float R (125mm) Fork - Fox Vanilla R (130mm) Wheels - WTB Speed Disc rims w/ Shimano M475 hubs Tires - Hutchinson Spider (2.3's) Drivetrain - SRAM X-7 front & rear derailleurs, SRAM X-7 27 speed Impulse Trigger Shifters, TruVativ Hussefelt (44,32,22) splined crank, and Shimano M505 clipless pedals. Brakes - Hayes HFX-9XC hydraulic w/ Hayes HFX Comp alloy levers Cockpit - TruVativ Riser bar, XR stem, and XR single clamp seatpost w/ WTB Laser V Comp saddle DestroyerOfSenses 09-16-2004, 07:54 AM I don't know if any of you guys care about the road bikes, but Jamis really has some new impressive bikes in that area as well. To get started, the Xenith (top model road bike) is no longer the Reynolds X100 lithium alloy. The Xenith gets a beautiful, tight (geometry), full carbon fiber frame for '05. The thing is, there is not just one Xenith. There is a Xenith Team (Dura-Ace) and a Xenith Pro (Ultegra), both sharing the same full carbon frame. That's not the only news. The Eclipse is no longer Reynolds 853 w/ carbon stays. The 2005 Eclipse gets carbon fiber top tube, seat tube and seatstays with KILLER sculpted Reynolds 853 seat, head, and BB lugs. The downtube is Reynolds 853 and chainstays heat treated cromo. If you ride road, or just appreciate killer bikes, you gotta check these things out (when they come out). NicQc 09-16-2004, 08:28 AM Thanks DoS. Do you know if there are major changes to the 2.0 & 3.0 XLT ? Shock, Fork, drivetrain... ? Wolverine 09-16-2004, 08:54 AM DoS, Anything out yet on the Diablo? Looks like Jamis' first attempt to make a semi-FR bike. mahgnillig 09-16-2004, 05:17 PM I'd be intrigued to know if anyone has the details on the '05 Dakar Sport. I ordered an '04 on Monday, but my LBS just called to let us know that it was here, and that they were out of '04s and I had an '05 instead for the same price. I can't pick it up until Monday, but it'd be cool to check out the changes. DestroyerOfSenses 09-17-2004, 07:28 AM NicQc, The XLT 2.0's major upgrade is a Manitou Minute 3:00 instead of a Manitou Minute 2:00, and a TruVativ Stylo crank instead of the Holzfeller. The XLT 2.0 will be available in Ano Red. As for the XLT 3.0, there are no major upgrades, just the larger bearings that all the Dakar frames get, and the XLT 3.0 is all Ano Grey for '05. Both bikes get the Crank Bros Candy C pedals. Nice. Wolverine, All info for the Diablo will be revealed at interbike. mahgnillig, The 2005 Dakar Sport gets a Fox Float rear air shock instead of the coil Vanilla in '04. It also gets the Manitou Splice fork w/ 100-130mm (instead of the Manitou Black 100mm), as well as Avid BB5 discs instead of Hayes HMX-1. mahgnillig 09-17-2004, 09:09 AM Thanks DoS! That sounds like quite a decent upgrade over the '04... can't wait till Monday :) DestroyerOfSenses 09-17-2004, 05:57 PM mahgnillig, Let us know how you like it. rkj__ 09-17-2004, 06:22 PM NicQc, mahgnillig, The 2005 Dakar Sport gets a Fox Float rear air shock instead of the coil Vanilla in '04. It also gets the Manitou Splice fork w/ 100-130mm (instead of the Manitou Black 100mm), as well as Avid BB5 discs instead of Hayes HMX-1. Why a 130mm fork on a 90mm frame? Does that really make sence? bigguppies92 09-19-2004, 10:59 AM any info on the 05 dakar xc comp? Anything would be greatly appreciated, I'm trying to narrow down my choices on an 05 mid-priced xc bike. ($1700 or $1800 max) DestroyerOfSenses 09-20-2004, 06:10 AM bigguppies92, '05 Dakar Comp's major change is Sram X-9 rear derailleur and Sram X-7 front der., along with Sram's X-9 Impulse Shifters. A major upgrade for the '05 Dakar Comp is also the Avid Juicy 5 hydraulic discs ('04 had Avid cable actuated). It also has a Manitou Black Super (90-120mm). Besides all those changes it still has the same frame and shock (Fox FLOAR R w/ Pro Pedal), Mavic XM 117 wheels and Deore hubs. rkj__ The Dakar Pro has a 100mm travel fork, and the Sport's fork is adjustable to that. While I see your point, it is not uncommon to see that much travel on aggressive XC rigs such as the Dakar Sport. bigguppies92 09-20-2004, 01:26 PM any pics? (05 dakar xc comp if u forgot) kustomz 09-21-2004, 01:51 PM Are they ever going to offer a 29er? bigguppies92 09-21-2004, 05:47 PM http://www.thaicycling-group.com/raceboard/webboard/00308.shtml its got pictures of a lot of the 05's on it, but its not english and they dont have all the bikes, just about all the dakars, one xlt, dragon, xc, etc.... rkj__ 09-22-2004, 01:11 PM bigguppies92, '05 Dakar Comp's major change is ... Sram X-7 front der. Deore is shown in the picture from the foreign site. Where did you get your information from? looks pretty good though. DestroyerOfSenses 09-22-2004, 03:31 PM I got my specs from the '05 Jamis introduction packet.(Your dealer would be able to show you it if you ask.) DestroyerOfSenses 09-22-2004, 03:46 PM But that literature could be wrong cuz Jamis is always changing stuff. rkj__ 09-22-2004, 04:15 PM I got my specs from the '05 Jamis introduction packet.(Your dealer would be able to show you it if you ask.) ok cool. bigguppies92 09-22-2004, 04:27 PM I have no idea where that came from, I was wondering too. I just googled 2005 jamis dakar xc comp and searched through a few results and found that mahgnillig 09-22-2004, 08:00 PM For anyone who is interested, here is my new Dakar Sport. The picture isn't great (sorry about that... garage is kinda messy so it doesn't stand out too well against the background). The fork is a Manitou Splice 70-100mm adjustable. I replaced the clipless pedals with some platforms for the time being until I get used to the new bike and new terrain I will be riding. All the rest is just as I bought it. - Jen. rkj__ 09-22-2004, 08:16 PM For anyone who is interested, here is my new Dakar Sport. I see it is a 70-100 splice, not 100-130. that makes sence. looks really good in that red. i hope you enjoy it. let us know how it rides. happy riding. camss69 09-22-2004, 08:43 PM For anyone who is interested, here is my new Dakar Sport. Sweet lookin bike, is that annodized or painted red? Time to get it dirty! mahgnillig 09-23-2004, 06:31 AM It's anodized... normally red wouldn't be my first choice of colour, but it does look pretty cool with the anodized finish, so I'm happy :) So far I've had a busy week and only had a chance to ride it round the neighbourhood for a few minutes. Our first run out in the desert will be on Saturday, so I'm sure it'll be plenty dusty after that! - Jen. bigguppies92 09-23-2004, 06:27 PM my brother is looking at an xc expert now and I was wondering if anyone had any info on that. SSteve F 09-23-2004, 08:48 PM What year is he looking at? DestroyerOfSenses 09-24-2004, 06:29 AM The '04 Dakar Expert, in my opinion, is the best Dakar Jamis has ever created. It comes spec'd with a full XT parts package on the upgraded Pro frame for $2k. You don't have to empty your bank account and get the Pro to get a race ready package. Two guys in the riding group have them and love em. All that being said, I still got the Pro. :) hehe SSteve F 09-24-2004, 01:11 PM Don't want to seem pedantic, but i'm pretty sure the Expert comes with the Truvativ crank/BB......right? Other than that, everything else on the drivetrain/brakes is XT. STEVE ('04 Expert owner who had his frame replaced under warranty with a Pro ;) ) mahgnillig 09-26-2004, 07:21 AM Yesterday was the first ride on my new Dakar Sport. Now I'm not an expert by any means, and since I haven't ridden in almost 3 years and my old bike was a pretty cheap rigid bike that I got 10 years ago, I really don't have a worthy comparison. But here's my 2 cents anyway ;) It took me a little while to get used to the way the bike felt compared to what I was used to. It seemed a little skittish at first, but that could have been the desert trail playing games with me (I've never ridden off-road on dirt before, only mud, leaves and forest mulch). After a few minutes, and a nice flowing ride down a gently sloping trail, I got used to it. The bike suspension ate up all the lumps and bumps, and I always felt stable, even when the back tyre skidded out from under me when I hit the side of a rock covered in gravel. I started out with the rear shock set pretty low (80psi for my 120lb self) since that was where I got the correct amount of sag according to the manual. I took my shock pump with me and added another 10psi during the ride, which felt a bit better (probably because I'm used to having a stiff bike). It's probably worth playing around with that a bit more to get it just where I like it. All in all, I really enjoyed the ride. I swapped bikes with a friend for a few minutes so she could test out my new ride (she rides a GT full suspension... not sure what model), and she liked how it felt too. She was also pretty impressed with how good a value for the money it was. We were only out for about an hour, since all 3 of us who went were pretty unfit, and the 95 degree heat was a little much to bear. On the way back my hubby's chain broke, so I had a good chance to test out the lower gears on my bike while I followed him at walking pace ;) That's about as much a review as I can offer until I get confident (and fit) enough to start doing more technical stuff, but so far I am very pleased with my new bike :) - Jen. ridetheworld 09-29-2004, 10:28 PM ive seen the 2005 catalouge, all the shots are local salt lake riders, and my crew Any quesions on where these trails are, and roads too i got the answers Wolverine 10-11-2004, 10:03 AM Supposedly info on the Diablo was going to be released at Interbike this past week. Does anyone have any info/pictures? caboverpete 11-15-2004, 08:00 AM DOS-- have you heard any ETA's on the Dakar XC Experts? I placed an order on Thursday but the only real info i got was that they were still in production. |
