Mine would be 909 and Vassar both in the Poughkeepsie area.

Vassar is an awesome place. I rode there twice and it has some really cool stuff. There was a see-saw and other NS type stuff. I live in Queens so I usually hit Stillwell, Rocky Point, and Sprain. Anyone want to do a group ride? The weather is a little nicer. How are the ground conditions?

Hey All,

Hoping someone might be able to help me with a good destination in upstate New York... I'm looking for somewhere with enough interesting cross-country trails to warrant a three-day stay, maybe with camping or reasonably-priced lodging nearby (within riding distance?). Some good hiking trails would be a plus too.

Send me an email if you can help.

Thanks a lot!
Doug

I went to college in PoVegas. No, not Vassar, the "other" college.....
Anyway, I was wondering if you had any idea about what was up at the Stewart Airforce Base trails up there (in Beacon, actually). There was some debate about how legal they were, and if they were even open.....
Any info would be helpful.

As for favorite trails - I'm kind of partial to Grahams Hills, and I'm always willing to take a trip up to Ninham!

I ride in Grahm Hill all the time...I live in Tarrytown now.

As for thge Stewart Trails...they are in Newburgh not Beacon. There is about 3500 Acres of XC there and it is all legal. They do a lot of races there every year...there was some talk of shutting the park down after 9/11 but I don't think it got very far.

In Beacon there is Mt. Beacon. I don't know if the trails are any good for XC but we sometimes hike our DH bikes up to the top and bomb down. They are mostly ATV trails and are not for the faint of heart...a full face helmat is recomended.

As for XC in upstate...definatly check out teh Stewart area in Newburgh...909 is close as well. Tons of trails and tons of great singletrack!!

Mackie...you went to Marist then I assume? I have a bunch of friends who went there for Graphic Design...one even works for Cannondale now. I used to do a Techno radio show on WVKR as well as promote raves in the area.

Psych major. Graduated a while back now (1992).
Good call on Stewart being in Newburgh - it's been a while since I've been up there.
I rode Mt. Beacon once, a long time ago. Pretty fun.

blue mtn is my favorite. been to stillwell(too easy in my opinion but nice since its a big loop and you can go around and around till too tired:)), graham hill was fun but it was late fall with TONS AND TONS of leaves so i didnt get to the true taste. never been to ninham. would love to go. my friend and i are looking for major road trips all over the northeast and down south so email me if you want to try to get groups going to places...more the merrier! We both live in manhattan. When not roadtripping i'll be heading to blue mountain quite often for conditioning(i race and will be doing some epic races as well) so hit me up to tag along. PLEASE MELT SNOW:)

Blue Mountain and Stewart. Both places are great!

Only been to Ninham once and it was excellent also. Are the Vassar trails worth the trip for xc or are they mostly stunts?
