View Full Version : KC in Nov
Ride4Beer 09-02-2004, 05:20 AM Allright, I have been fortunate enough to score tickets to see the Chiefs play the Patsies on MNF in November. I will be there a couple of days. I grew up in MO, so I understand the dicey weather that time of year. Assuming its not colder than h#ll and snowing, are there trails in the greater KC area that warrant me bringing my bike with me? I am a sport class racer type who really just enjoys the ride. If I was headed to STL, I would have all the trails lined up. I am just not sure where to go on that side of the state.
TIA
Ron
mward 09-02-2004, 02:46 PM Our trails are better than st louis. ;)
Really, there are some incredible trails here, my favorite being landahl, check www.earthriders.com for a trail list and directions. Bring your bike, so long as the trails aren't wet, you won't regret it.

It really depends on what you're looking for. As Marcus mentioned, the Earth Riders website is a good start. On the website on the left side of the page, there is an "Ask the Experts" link. This link will allow you to ask a question of several hundred mountain bikers in the greater KC area. If you're looking for a guided ride, clink on the link and let people know when you're coming in town and ask for some ride guides.
Hopefully you're not looking for smooth, easy trails because we don't have many of those. Most of our trails are rocky with some tree roots thrown in for good measure.
When is the MNF game? I'm not much of a football fan, so I'm not too up dates.

Ride4Beer 09-15-2004, 02:10 PM Nooooo, I don't want smooth, easy trails. They suck! Living in Texas, we only get fun if its rocky and stuff. I'll be there the weekend before Thanksgiving with the game being on that Monday. I would love a guided tour. I'll probably bring the Surly if its singlespeed friendly. I looked at the earthriders site the other day, but was somewhat dismayed that it didn't have a forum feature. I will email and see what possibilities abound. Thanks for the help, guys.
vladamir 09-17-2004, 09:24 AM We've got all kinds of good trails here in KC. Do "ask the experts" as they will be able to help you out.

A lot of the trails were built by singlespeeders. Bring your Surly, it is singlespeed friendly.

Bring the SS. Very SS friendly. Many of the trails you'll ride are designed by SSer's or fixie's.
I won't be able to joing you for riding while you're up, as I'm having shoulder surgery on November 19th. Depending on what kind of meds I wind up with, I would be more than happy to hook up for a beer, assuming of course that you're in to that sort of thing.

I might have been known to consume a cold, frosty beverage or two in my day. ;) I'll definitely bring the SS and will inquire about the beer when we get closer to time.

kminer(at)minertech.com and I'll give you my cell phone #. Again, the Ask the Experts link is a great resource too.

golfSPORT95 11-15-2004, 11:00 PM Believe it or not good things are happening on the trails here around Manhattan. Our bike patrol has partnered with the park service as well to build some great new trail.
