I notice in the OC 80 (http://www.ouachitachallenge.com/course/images/big_racemap08.jpg) this year we will be going over Roundtop Mountain on the Ouachita Trail (north of Fisherman's Village).
I've never been up there. Anybody ridden that area of the Ouachita Trail? Elevation profile maybe? General input?
Thanks

Never ridden that part, but I talked to one of the top guys in that race every year and he said that the extra 20 miles that has been added is not just 20 extra miles, but 20 extra HARD miles.

For once I think entering the 60 mile version may have been one of the smarter things I've done:p

The 80 really is a great loop. Higher % singletrack than the 60. We do the OC Lite which includes RT and the east end for a 40 regularly.

Sissy....;)
Good luck this weekend at the 6 hour!
I'll be camping in Pisgah suffering through a 6 hour hell-fest on Saturday and a 4 hour singletrack-romp on Sunday. Life is tough
See you guys soon.

Rode Roundtop last weekend - yeah - if I was riding it the direction for the 80 - from the Womble trailhead sign that's roughly 3 miles from the top - we took the OC route up, and yeah hiked 60% of it. Was not a blast. But when we got to the top, we headed off the opposite way of the OC route toward the Womble trailhead and had some really nice runs through there, and then back down the Womble from the point it hits the OT. Was a pretty tiring loop - we started a little south of Hwy 88, probably 16-ish miles. I've ridden the trail recently from Fishermans Village to North Fork (~30 miles), and I would say I was more tired after doing the Roundtop loop.
