I am trying to plan a couple of biking day trips (i.e. drive an hour/hour and a half and ride for the day) for myself next week (vacation) out of WInnipeg. Where would you folk recommend I go? I would like some gnarly stuff as well and something of decent length with interesting terrain.

TIA!

Check out the trails at Falcon Lake ski hill, Ingolf, and my personal favourite, Brandon Hills. The first 2 are Canadian shield while Brandon is smother hardpack. Go to http://www.gords.com and http://www.cycling.mb.ca/trails.htm

Thanks, I have looked at those trail lists. I just wanted some personal experiences because I don't want to drive for 1-2 hours for a 5km trail. Pretty easy to find those trails you mentioned?

Falcon is on the map and ingolf is North of West Hawk lake. I found both of those with a highway map. Brandon Hills are easy to find, A&L or Stream and Wood in Brandon can give you further directions.
