View Full Version : Redline d440 sizing
FudgeHammer 12-28-2007, 12:35 PM I'll cut right to the chase; due to budget , need for a couple gears, lack of knowledge or desire to build a bike , and want for a 29" bike, I've decide on the Redline D440. Problem is the local shop that sells Redline doesn't order enough to have one on the floor , so I would have to order without riding. I'm not sure if I should go witht he 15" or 17" frame. I'm 5' 9" with a 32" inseam. Anyone have any idea as to which direction I should go based on the specs and geometry on the Redline site? Thanks.

Schultz29 12-28-2007, 01:15 PM I'm about 6' with a 31" inseam. I ride a 19" Redline and the TT was shorter than the Gary Fisher it replaced. I'd say, get the 17".
sennaster 12-28-2007, 07:54 PM i'm 5'8" with a 30in inseam and i have a 15in flight.
i would like a little longer top-tube, as i'm forced to run a setback post, with a 100mm stem (with my seat all the way back).
if i could start over i would've gotten the 17in, even though it had less standover.
wonky57 12-28-2007, 08:35 PM I ordered a 19" (34" inseam) d440 on 10/13, it showed up yesterday. The stand over height is the same on the Redline frame geometry chart. When I straddle the bike and pull up on the handlebars so the top tube just touches the huevos, the front tire is about 2 inches off the ground. I've bought a few Redline BMX'ers (freestyle and racing) in the past for my son and nephews. The quality has always been great, the bikes have seen alot of extreme use with only normal wear. This bike seems to be decently put together as well for a rigid 4130 chromoly, v-brake, 1x8. Nice metallic copper paint with bottle of touch-up paint. The bike came with X-5 trigger shifter and X-5 medium cage derailer instead of the SX-5 on the spec chart. The shifting is quick and positive. The ride is more comfortable than my aluminum 29er. I'll post pics and a more detailed review after some time on the bike.
and would ride a 17".....
sonoranbiker 12-29-2007, 09:31 AM If the geometry is the same as the 07 bikes, I am 5' 10 1/2" with a 32"ish inseam, and I ride a 17" MC 29er. They seem to run a little big, as the 19" felt huge.

Yeah I sat on a monocog 19" and it was gigantic;that's what had me worried. I think the TT is longer on the monocogs vs. the d440 too , so I think the 17" will be best by the feedback I'm getting here. I'll be ordering in about a month,so I'll be looking forward to reading your review wonky57. It's hard to find any info on these bikes.
badgermtb 02-27-2008, 01:16 PM I just ordered a D440. I noticed after i ordred it that the seatopst size is listed as 27.0 on the redline website. Can you verify this, or please tell me if it is indeed a 27.2?
Much appreciated!
longhaultrucker 05-24-2008, 09:07 PM I'll post pics and a more detailed review after some time on the bike.

I'm 6'2 with a 34" IS. I'm riding a 19" MC with a setback seat post. I'd like to set how big the 21" feels...

donalson 06-02-2008, 08:22 AM yup nano's... they are said to "roll out" well... i haven't spent much time with them off road yet... reviews are mixed on here... they are 2.1" tires so not super skinny :)
