View Full Version : MTB races before May? (OH, MI, IN, ILL)
galedhduck 02-03-2004, 05:53 PM I'm looking for a race in April that is within three to five hours of Northern Indiana (can't be on the last weekend).
FYI dinoseries.com has a good series of 8 IN races, the best being May 1st in North/central Indiana about 1 1/2 hour from South Bend.

I contacted a guy from KMBC a few weeks ago. They aren't sure about a race this year at this time. They are working on some new trail and seem to be short of help to get it done. They want to concentrate on the new trail before getting involved in putting on a race. They had mentioned a possibility of May 2nd, but that is the same date as the WORS Alpine Valley race. I hate to see them not have a race. Its a great trail sysytem and they put on a fun race. In my opinion they should have 2.
~martini~ 02-06-2004, 12:28 PM The Decorah Time Trials in Decorah IA are pretty early in the season, though it may be out of your reach. Decorah is an easy drive from the Chicago area. Proabably about 4 hours. Maybe less. The trails there are great too.

I agree, heck I might show up and do the time trial on my bighit just for shits and giggles, cool event highly reccommend it, but how bout some DH events in the Midwest, I'm trying to put together a good reace schedule, willing to travel pretty much anywhere in the midwest, I've already got the Devil;s den on there at least once hopefully some more. And the Westby White Knuckle race in WI. Anyother out there???

They used to have some slolam and "downhill" races at Challenge Park in Joliet, IL. Fun course, but not sure if they're doing that anymore. Not sure who to contact, but here's a website:

Try to find the folks at Pedal Power cycles, they should know more.

I've been to that race! I was there last year and rode the XC event and took pics of the DHer's. Looked fun, I just wish I had the balls to do that stuff. I've got freinds that live in Viroqua. Gravity Labs in Minneapolis is putting on DH-y events at Buck Hill this season. I think they do traditional runs down the hill, as well as slalom type events behind the shop on their terrain park they built/are building.
crowbike 02-07-2004, 11:56 PM The Mesa Mojo Greensfelder Grind is on March 28. Greensfelder Park is just west of St Louis,Mo in the Ozark Mountain foothills. This race is part of the Gary Fisher Missouri State NORBA series. Probably closer to six hours from Northern Indiana but worth the drive.
Should be more info later at this site: http://stlbiking.com

Yes I was in the Westby race, they have an awesome course considering we're in the midwest, I did all the Buckhill events but one. I will defintely be back this year, I hope they have a jump jam in their back yard or something this year, that would be awesome.

galedhduck 02-10-2004, 07:13 AM Thanks for ALL the input.
I'll definitely be expanding my racing into MO or TN, and maybe OH before I move home to PA and a few races in the near future will give me something to think about / keep me motivated on the rollers (arrgh).

Hey Martini,
I was riding a 2003 Specialized Bighit Expert, the CC race was nuts, in all that rain and stuff. A few of us tryed to let the officials allow us to make a jump so we could jump the racers but they said no, hahaha, that CC race was crazy, all that rain must have made the course horrible, although fun, hopefully I can get some firm dates on whe it is this year, I've been hearing june 5th but that is way earlier than last year.
