Been rebuilding mine with disc brakes and some other goodies. It comes out to be about 31-32 lbs.

Just wondering if this is heavy or light for a San Andreas.

I had one that was 52 lbs. Didn't last long with that build though.:nono:

Current ride - 32 lbs with the vanilla coil rear shock and V-brakes on my 2000 with 6" rear and 5" front travel. (black fork photo)

I had a 2003 at 28 lbs with 4" front and rear travel and Avid discs (red fork photo) for a 24 hour race.

I bet you could get one down to 26-27lbs with out too much.

Are those Nokian Boazobeana's on the back of the 03 with the red fork?

Whoa!!! I just weighed mine after stripping all the fenders and lights and mine is still 29 lbs.

How the heck did you get to 24 lbs???

I have:

Hope Pro II hubs with Mavic 717s and an XTR 11/34 cassette
FSA K-Force Lite Crankset
Avid BB7
San Marco Aspide carbon seat

Not many more places I can drop weight. :( I have a Thompson Masterpiece seat post coming in.

Actaully all the lightweight parts I just got was to make up for the increased weight from my Magura rim brakes to the Avid BB7s. I guess I should be glad to be where I am at.

28.6 lbs as pictured but with a new Progressive Suspension Ti spring that I scored off e-bay for $33.

Short term improvements, parts on the way include: Titec Pluto bar, Thomson stem, Sram Rocket trigger shifters and an '06 Manitou Minute 3, which is on it's way back from manitou because it didn't work.

Long term improvements include: Hayes Stroker Trail brakes and XT crank and BB set and possiblly a Hopey steering damper.

The steering damper will add a little weight, but with the rest I should be able to get it down to 28 lbs.

This San Andreas is 37Lb (17Kg) as you see, the rider can lift it ;)

The pic taken before crazy track to dead sea in Israel, from +60M down to -400M
On distance of 5.5 Km
It bone shaker!

With the shock I'm using for my S.A. frame I just got it worked out to be about 6.8 pounds for the frame itself. I've done 26 pound bikes with dual discs with that much frame weight countless times. Its not all that hard to do really.
