View Full Version : 2004 scrap !
freeryder 02-02-2004, 09:09 PM NEW commer here !
I posted on DH/FR forum already(my 1st post), but any comments on this bike? (it`s a photoshop !) . Also, would this 2004 scrap accept 8inch rotor ?
what a great site mtbr.com is ! soon I`ll be a kona rider ! :D
konameister 02-03-2004, 01:11 AM Well, the Scrap will accept any rotor you put on it, just make sure that your fork also does. If you want to put an 8 inch rotor you need to change the standard Marzocchi MX Race 100mm fork that comes with the bike.
But besides that - go for it. You won't be disappointed!
freeryder 02-03-2004, 04:21 AM Thanks for the info! I`m going to get only the frame, and build it with parts from my current bike. So, basically this photoshop scrap will be the one, except 8in rear rotor, XT compo. can`t wait to build it !
oh, and one more thing, do you know any significant difference between 04 scrap and stuff/roast frame ? I know roast has better yoke at the bb and slight different geometry, but materially same, right?
konameister 02-03-2004, 05:00 AM Yep, they are basically the same!
G-reg 02-05-2004, 08:52 PM I've got an 03 scrap and I'm running an 8in front and a 7in rear Avid Mechs. Unless your rollin huge long downhill runs, they are over kill. I use my Scrap as a all-round bike, trails, trials, urban,DJ, etc. And the huge rotors really just seem to get in the way, especially in urban and trails. There really isn't too much power difference, that you can really notice, the big rotors help with heat dissipation and high speed hard core DH stuff. They are just an expensive part that's easy to bend if you mess up a side hop or bail mid jump. The next time I waste a rotor I'm going back to the 160's. My friends trials bike has them and they perform just fine. A bigger part of disk power is set up, hard to do with wobbly 8in rotors. In short, I had "rotor envy" and fell for it and wish I had the smaller disks that are harder to make wobbly. One more thing, do they actually sell the frame only. I think you can get the Roast or the Cowan as frames, last year the Scraps were complete bikes only.

you`re right, they don`t sell scrap as a frame, but my lbs stripped the complete, and gave me a great deal. i finally go around to finish building. here is the pic !
sherman, D521, full xt, raceface diablo stem, azonic dw bar, THE saddle, etc...
affordable, yet dependable, handle`s very well, great FR bike. love it !
G-reg 02-06-2004, 07:44 AM That's a nice setup, just the direction I'm taking mine. I'm waiting for the wheels to go and then I'll have a pretty close build to that, with the exception of my Z1. Enjoy
