(Hey All -- I'm posting this for the organizer and I'll be one of the ride leaders. -- Cruzmissle)
Third Annual Mt. Greylock Go 'Round,
Sunday July 11th
10:00am start
Join us for the Third Annual Greylock Go ‘Round in northwest Massachusetts. This is a fun and challenging ride that ascends the shoulders of Mount Greylock -- the highest peak in the state at 3490’ -- twice. We’ll do a 27-mile circumnavigation on double track, rocky old jeep trails, some dirt roads, a little bit of pavement, and a knotty and technical singletrack descent. There will be 4000 feet of cumulative climbing on the day, and we will have spectacular views of the mountains and valley.
This is definitely NOT a race, but rather a ride at your own pace with friendly locals leading and riding sweep so that no one gets lost. Everyone will be provided with maps and the route will be marked. There will be three water/food stations along the way with peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, energy bars, and drinks. At the end of the ride will be a burrito feast, along with swimming, Frisbee, and camaraderie in the Greylock Glen, a beautiful area at the foot of Mt. Greylock. No hype, no venders, just a bunch of riders enjoying the good views and food!
The suggested donation of $5 to $10 goes to cover the cost of food. Any funds left over get put toward next year’s event.
DIRECTIONS
The ride starts in the Greylock Glen in Adams in northern Berkshire County not far from the tri-state border of Massachusetts, New York, and Vermont. Depending on where you are coming from, you’ll want to head toward North Adams, MA or Pittsfield, MA.
From North Adams take Route 8 South past Specialty Minerals to Friend Street in Adams. Take a right onto Friend Street and go 2.5 miles south past the Quaker Meeting House Cemetery to Gould Road. Follow signs and arrows from here.
From the south from Pittsfield take Route 8 north through Cheshire and take a left onto Fred Mason Road just past Bushika Sand and Gravel in Adams. Drive along Fred Mason, past the old Adams reservoir (a small pond) about 2.5 miles to Gould Road. Follow signs and arrows from here.
UPDATES
Keep an eye on this thread for further info and updates. If you wish to be added to the email announcement list (which will only be used to let you know if the ride is cancelled due to inclement weather) please write to Heather Linscott: hlinscot at bcn.net.
