Going to be riding in September this year. Although I haven't done too much looking, I was hoping someone could give a heads-up as to who/where to rent bikes? Looking for some light high-end dual suspension XC/all-mountain rigs or whatever you think is best suited for MOAB. We'll be riding 3 full days (Fri, Sat, Sun) and I want to hit Porc Rim, Slick Rock, and at least 1-2 other must-do's...

Thanks guys!

I currently ride a Giant VT1 and my buddy rides a Santa Cruz.

Slickrock Cycles rents VT1's, and I think it's Moab Cyclery that rents Hecklers and such. Can't really remember who else rents what...

Howdy, here's the shake-down as I remember it. Please excuse me if I forget someone's favorite brand.

Chile Pepper - Maverick, Cannondale, Santa Cruz
Moab Cyclery - Ellsworth, Santa Cruz
Poison Spider - Titus, Fisher, Trek, Kona
Rim Cyclery - Specialized, Christini
Slickrock Cycles - Turner, Intense, Giant

Nearly all rental bikes are going to be full suspension. You'll have choices from fairly mainstream to full "Gucci" brands. All of the shops are pretty comparible on price. Choose the bike you want and go from there.

Email me if you want any further help. (ridermel@moabtrailguide.com)

Cheers!

If you're gonna rid Porc, you will need more travel than an xc bike to make the ride enjoyable. A VT1 and Santa Cruz would be pretty good for that trail.

I personally would like to try out a Santa Cruz - but which model do you suggest? We will definitely be hitting Porc Rim

I would have to say, the Heckler or the Blur, because the rest of their bikes are prolly too big for the climb and the others are too light, or hardtails. Do NOT ride a hardtail on the trail. You might not be able to have kids after.

Went spring '03 with some friends and one of them rented a Spec Enduro from Rim IIRC and was very happy with it.

thanks for the heads up! I looked up the 3 main shops and pretty much narrowed it down to the Titus Switchblade or Speicalized Epic... Any input much appreciated.
