Alrighty, Steamboat Springs has come into the mix as a summer temporary home. So how's it like up there in regards to riding, fishing, living, etc? Seems kinda out of the way from most things, but maybe not too far from I-70. Weather looks good too (temperature-wise). Is it a pretty laid-back town, good atmosphere and all? And does Cingular work up there?

Was just there. Did not appear to be tons of singletrack but the resort has lift service and there is some good riding. Just nothing near the quantity of say WP. Very cool town though. Would love to live there. Give Sore Saddle bike shop a call for the lowdown.

Oh Yeah, any town home to Moots can't be all bad.

Much better riding out near rabbit ears pass than the ski hill, if your into cross country. you'll love it!!!!!! Fishing is top notch also.

It's quality and quantity, though maybe not immediately from town. Lots of unmarked trails all over Emerald Mtn. There are a number of trails on the resort, but they're pretty chopped up since it's lift-served. Great trails up in the Routt NF North of town, West and North of Clark. There is a "Steamboat Singletracks" book by Bobcat that lists many rides in the area.

The fishing must be great, I'm just now getting into fly fishing and there is a lot of talk about that area.

After touring much of CO, including Winter Park, Summit County, Salida, Crested Butte, Fruita, Aspen, I would have to say Steamboat is a close 2nd favorite place to ride behind CB. It's a larger town (relatively), so maybe not as biker friendly as say CB, and a definite Western feel to it, lots of ranchers in the area, rodeos, etc. Oh yeah, hot springs! Strawberry Park is great, even the one in town is nice.

I would guess about 1 1/2 - 2 hours from I-70, depending on whom you get stuck behind on those country roads. Far enough to keep most of the crowds away. Probably about 2 1/2 - 3 hours from Ft Collins, due East.

Cat, when you headed up there? It's hot here in GJ now and I need to check it out.

I'm just waiting for my phone to come in. Should be within a week or two when I head out that way. PM me your number(s) so I can make sure the one I have is not outdated. You know what'd be cool? If my fly rod fits in my CamelBak. Can't wait to get out of this place.

I have a 4-piece Scott that is fairly compact. How much is a fishing license in CO?

I think mine was 44 bucks. You have to live hear 6-months before you get the resident rate.

I drove up Lands End today and fiched a few of the streams up top, or tried to anyway.... I took the dogs with me and they are not condusive to a good day of fishing. At least they had fun though.
It's a lot damned nicer weather up there as well!
