I don't want to rain on anyone's parade here, but what is the point of the Battery? Let me put that another way. If MC is planning on making a comeback I certainly hope they have something more up their sleeve than the Battery (and I'd like to see it). The Battery is not exactly a mainstream bike and I doubt that it will sell in numbers sufficient enough to ensure the future of MC. The geometry is all wrong for XC and "trail" bike use....probably the two most popular forms of mountain bikes. Don't get me wrong, I want MC to succeed. I just bought a new MC frame. I'm just not sure they are headed in the right direction with this bike and if they actually have something else to show they should show it and get the word out.
Go ahead and flame me. Been there before.

The point of the Battery?? Slope-Style, for that use the frame is designed back in 2005, the first of it's kind (again MC was ahead of the rest :thumbsup: )

Flaming you is not nessasary, because you have a viable point.
But MC will have more frames to sell than "just" the Battery.
There is still, and hopefully forever, the Classic San Andreas, and there is also the new San Andreas, and you still have the other models MC made, the Zen, the Fury, the Shockwave 9.5, the Rumble.
So you see that MC still has the whole MTB range covered with specific frame options.

I understand what you are saying. I have a Zen. I had a San Andreas. I'm just wondering why they are spending so much time promoting the Battery and so little time (or no time) on frames that will be higher volume sellers and get them back in the marketplace.
I only bring this discussion to the table because Tim monitors this forum and I assume Eric does. I had a nice discussion with Eric about the Zen frame before I bought it. I had switched to Ventana when I sold my San Andreas because I like companies who will take the time to have a personal discussion with you about their frames. At that time I couldn't talk to anyone at MC. I recently called MC to get some technical info on the Zen, but when Eric took the time to discuss MC and the Zen frame in particular with me I decided to buy one.
Anyway, just some thoughts...maybe I'm impatient and MC has some real treats in store for us in the next few months.
BTW...I've actually been a member of MTBR since 97'. Of course, my join date suffered during the purge and reorganization....lol! But, I was here riding the NW when MC was at it's peak and there were quite a few of them on the trails in this area. Mostly San Andreas. I miss those days when exciting things were happening in the world of mountain bikes. I remember being on the trail with my team works Manitou FS with a prototype "Black" fork. My buddy had his San Andreas.
We ran across a guy on a Special Ed FSR Comp. He kept looking at the San Andreas. Finally he commented on how the SA made him feel like he was riding a bi-plane while it was obvious the SA was the space shuttle....lol! Of course, it sounded better trailside.

Cheers

Keep in mind, the Battery was already a work in progress during the last change in MC ownership. It takes time to go from the computer screen to a ride worthy of an MC sticker. I am as impatient as anyone when it comes to seeing the latest goods. It definitely appears MC brought only what they had ready to the show. From the sounds of it, I think we will see in the next few months what MC has up its sleeve.

I can sypathize with everyone here, but the truth is, that Mountain Cycle's "few months" were up a long time ago.
It has been well over a year, without anything of significance happening.
They have taken so long to get back on their feet, that almost everyone I talk to on the trail thinks they aren't in business anymore.
Many I talk to, say they wouldn't buy a MC product, because they don't think MC will be in business much longer. This is after I explain, that they aren't out of business in the first place.
People don't like to buy products, from companies, that they think might not be there for them in the future.
Two years ago, I would have thought Mountain Cycle was riding up a 30% grade, now I think they might be on a 50% grade.
Its going to take some real energy for them to get rolling again, because of their declining reputation in the mountain bike community.
Their reputation is not declining because of bad quality, but rather a perceived impression that they are nearly out of business or are out of business, combined with the impression that the single pivot frames are "old school".
We experianced MC owners, know of course, that these allegations are BS, but they need to convince the buying public, not we owners of Mountain Cycles.

I'm with you guys regarding some of these views. Mountain Cycle isn't making much or any kind of impact in the US. Largely, this is due to the European MC headquarters and the emphasis on the Chantel MC race team over there at their big races. There also seems to be a delay in the transition over to the newly produced frames and getting them out to the shops and riders. Are you guys following the MC blog thatis on the MC website with all the race results, etc?

Battery?
I'll be honest, I personally have absolutely no interest in XC or any bikes that AREN'T made for jumping or hardcore stunts. I am a motocross racer turned BMX racer turned DH mountain biker. There are many riders out there who agree that it just isn't that much fun to ride up hills. It's all about hitting jumps and rough terrain on two wheels. A small hardtail bike with tight geometry is the best for throwing around off stunts and BMX style tricks. Downhill trails will likely have bigger jumps and stunts than can comfortably be landed on a bike without a rear shock. If a rider is a little sloppy on a hardtail or miss-times a big stunt on his hardtail, he is in for a violent landing and likely to be limping around for the next week or so, The Battery could safely allow the rider to roll away toward the next stunt. The Battery's travel will also allow more traction in the corners where the hardtail would bounce and not hook up. The Battery is not designed as a trail or xc bike and won't even have a front derailleur. I can't imaginen the idea of someone wanting a FD on there, what would be the point? Think "big BMX bike with a rear shock."
