Hello,

I was wondering if anybody could recommend a decent replacement chainring for my 2005 Rig. I like the stock 32t gearing, just need to replace a very worn chainring. I'm thinking I'd like to go steel to get a longer life out of it.

I'm a bit of a novice in DIY bike repair so very specific recommendations are greatly appreciated.

Thanks....

Maybe somebody could confirm this is the right size:

The crank is a Bontrager Race Lite SS 32T

Yep, that should be the right size. If you really wanted steel though, you can get a Surly Stainless Steel ring in the same size.

Here's the link from the same web store...

I put a 32t Salsa and a 34t Blackspire on my Rig. As for a steel chainring other than the minor added weight it should work fine.

Riding Surly 36 teeth now with 18t on the rear.
Threw the bashring away and mounted the chainring on the outside of the spider.
Had it on the inside first but my EBB slipped a few mm's and the chainring 'ate' some aluminum from the chainstay.
With a spacer on the body chainline is straight.
Be carefull not to drop the EBB with the steel chainring on the ground, as I accidentaly did:blush: .
Ring bends easily, luckily got it ok again...
