Hey I noticed that I have to actually unscrew my shock and move it on the rocker arm to adjust my travel...but how do I know which hole is which position?? Im thinking that the one closest to the seat tube is 3 inches, the one in the middle is 4 inches, and the one furthest away is 5 inches...can anyone provide some insight? Thanks!!

heres a pic for the heck of it.

Its actually the other way around.

Hole closest to seat tube = 5"
Middle hole = 4"
End hole = 3"

You also have to change the air pressure in the shock as each position changes the leverage applied to the shock. I weigh 260lb and use 190psi/5" 160/4" 130/3"

cool...if I keep it at 4" do you think that would be good for XC as well as light jumps and drops? I dont like to change things and always try to find a happy medium. Is it a pain in the butt to change the travel? How tight do i tighten the bolts as I do not have a torque wrench...is there a travel setting thats "safer" as far as wear and tear go to leave the bike in? I would like to have it at 5" all the time but im gonna drop my fork from 130 to 100 during XC and I dont want to have 5 inches in the back and only 4 in the front

oh also...I forgot to ask this but what should I set the SAG to...15% or 20% of the piston?

4" is probly OK as long as you set the air pressure high enough to do the job. Youll want to score a shock pump for sure. Its a very simple matter to change settings even on the trail. I set minimum sag to avoid bottoming the piston, about 1/4" or so. I have yet to even come close to bottoming out so I could probly use less air pressure, but I like the firm action.

to add to what soniq7 said...basically i'm 230 and have it on the 4" setting, and run 150psi...i find that if you have about 3/8" of sag, it settles in the position where the spring rate begins to ramp up a bit, so you get less pedal bob....if you run less than that (in my experiance....) you get bad pedal bob, being that the ario doesn't have a pedaling platform...YES you are putting in more pressure, but the first few mm's of travel are very soft, to give you a smooth ride over small stuff..then it ramps up to a firmer rate, so you are less prone to bottoming on the bigger stuff....the only wear and tear i can foresee by running on 5" of travel, is that you're adding pressure to the shock, and increasing the leverage ratio past what the shock is really designed for...you get a 2.6:1 leverage ratio on the 4" setting which is about the most you want with an air shock...with 5" you're up to 3.3:1....staying around 2:1 is nice, which would be the 3" setting, but unfortunatly you cant get a 2:1 in the 4" setting cause we cant run a 7" eye to eye/2" stroke shock on ours...i'm looking at getting the marzocchi roco air rear shock down the road, which i feel might take the higher ratio a little better than the Ario, but at the same time, i have NO reason to run the 5" setting at this point, and when i start wanting to hit bigger drops, i might as well add another bike to my stable...like a coiler or something....at this point, as you've seen in my pics in other threads, i really have no point to come off the 4" setting....and yes, the 5" setting is the hole furthest to the back...and no it's not hard to change the shock position...just need two 5mm allen wrenches (sometimes can be done with one if you're lucky..), and the torque value isn't really crucial when you re assemble everything...just make sure it's tight...and i grease my shock bushings every now and then...it makes it ride nicer that's for sure....
