Hey gang,

Time for Psycho Mike's annual psycho ride. I usually do a long road ride every year to see how I'm doing fitness wise. Last year, it was 90 km out to one of the suburbs. This year, it is a bedroom community using two different routes (one outbound, one return). I figure it'll be darn close to an imperial century (at least 130 km, likely closer to the 161km mark which would be the 100 miles of a century).

Don't know how long it'll take, but it'll be interesting to see how well the Cake handles road miles like that. Of course, I'm making the ride a little easier by slapping on a set of Tioga City Slickers in the place of my 2.35" and 2.1" knobbies, but other than that it's the same bike I use day after day on the trails.

I head out early tomorrow, so everyone send those long distance "good luck" vibes my way :)

Well, the total ride out and back was 152 km. The first 86 km were bucking a nasty headwind and more than not uphill (1-2% grade), but I made up a lot of time on the way back. I did an extra little loop, and can now say that I've done my first century, on the Cake to boot!

i did this race: http://ltr.northbaycycling.ca

just over 100 km in the nasty ass 34* heat. people were dropping out of the race like mad. even the recreational and 50 km racers. i stuck it out. cake held up well.

I know that feeling far too well, Nuker. We were sitting at 28C temps with a humidex in the range of 36-37C.

I was just dang surprised by the was the Cake flew along with the wind at my back. There were sections I was hardly pedalling and doing 35km/h.

I'm thinking that if my Cake went on a wee bit of a diet (keeping it burlier, but swapping some of the stock stuff for lighter, stronger stuff) it would make a downright wicked Clyde XC bike than could handle pretty much anything that my local trails could throw at it....and still be trail friendly for an all day ride.
