Hi! I have a 06 GF Tassajara Disc. I want to upgrade parts as I can, and so I'm wondering what kinds of upgrades other people have done with their Tass or other similar models. My interest is with XC riding and endurance riding/racing. I'm not really into jumps or FR. What upgrades would you recomend for my bike until I get to the point where I can buy a new bike/frame.

Well if you want to lighten the load 3 good upgrades would be a fox 32 talas or float (450-500$ i think) for a lighter fork, magura marta brakes (260$ for 1 set, so 510$) will take of alot there, and mabey shimano XTR drivetrain. And if u have alot of $$$ to spend Chris King Rear hubs will cut weight and it will take 1/3 a time to engage when you start to pedal. (500$). So there is alot you can do but its a relatively light bike but i u did all i mentioned you can make it up to 3 lbs lighter, mabey more.

Frame is designed around a 100mm fork.......Talas or Float would be too long at 140mm. Look into a Reba or Fox F100.

Yeah, they are both too long. I'd like to stay around 100-120mm, on this bike or any other that I get. I have decent but not great components now; I'd like the upgrades to be for performance and not necessarily weight. I know that usually they go hand and hand, but weight isn't my first priority.

well, you could do what im doing to mine and upgrade the bottom bracket. you would be amazed at how much smoother a high quality one, such as a raceface, would make it.
ya just gotta make sure its the right size and compatible with your crank,
have fun!

This is what I have added. Not all of it might be stuff you want, but it might be of interest to Tass riders generally:
Clipless pedals (Sh 520, but I might now go for pedals with wider platforms for riding unclipped over scary technical sections)
Bar ends - not fashionable, but I use them a lot.
Panaracer Fire rubber.
Post Moderne adjustable seatpost.
Marzocchi MX Comp ETA forks.
Cateye Cordless computer. (Lost, fell off, but top speed recorded 39.7mph).
Mavic Crossride wheels
Avid SD7 brakes. (I know you have discs, but if anyone wants to upgrade Vs, these are great).
Other parts like Deore transmission items have been replaced but not upgraded.

I'd be cautious about upgrades. By the time you've done a few, you sould spend $1-1.5K on a bike that cost $600 or so...you might be better off just trading it in for a more expensive bike.
Suggest you upgrade as parts wear out.

The biggest weakness I had with my Tassajara was the brakes. It got a little better when I changed out the pads for a set of cool stops, but they still needed frequent adjustment.
