View Full Version : Is the XLT 2.0 worth it?

I'm desperately trying to decide between the 1.0 and 2.0., and determine whether the 2.0 is worth the extra $500. It just seems to me that the "major" upgrades--2:00, Swinger 4-way, Juicy 7's, ect. aren't worth the extra dough. Tell me...am I wrong about this?

I think that the 4-way feels the same as the 3-way, with maybe more fine-tuning capability (and more gimmicks and potential problems, per my LBS); compared to my V-brakes, the Hayes feel great, as do the Juicy's--they both stop the bike and me (and the reviews for each are about the same); Minute 2:00 is a little lighter and infinitely adjustable w/ the air spring, but the 1:00 is travel-adjustable and has SPV as well; a little more XT on the 2.0, which is nice (esp. the wheelset), but the LX stuff on my Stumpjumper has mostly worked great for 5 years.

In all, I think the 2:00 would be nice, and the XT wheels are a decent step up, not to mention the silver/black is much better looking than the bright red, but I can't justify paying $500 for these perceived upgrades, while in my mind most of the other "upgrades" are essentially even. Help me justify the 2.0!!!

I had LX components on my other bike and I must say the XT works better. Ask yourself two questions: Do I want some of the components upgraded or not? Do I have the cash?
Good luck!

I just did the XLT 1.0 and upgraded the wheels to Mavic Crosslands - just build the bike up as you want. I'll replace the drivetrain parts if needed down the (trail) road.

The brakes, shock, even the saddle (Fizik Plateau) are much better. I'd say it's worth even more than 500 bucks more!!.
