View Full Version : Finally... getting my Knolly DeliriumT
After mulling around for the longest time, I finally pulled the trigger last week and got a Delirium T, small, ano black.
A big thank you and shout out to Jeff at Different Bikes in Vancouver(the best CS I've ever gotten from any bike shop anywhere ever, without being there) and Noel for what can I say, for building the best bike ever(even though I haven't seen one in person) and answering all my questions about every little thing about Knolly bikes.
Tomorrow, I leave from here(Dali, China) on a 3000+km roundtrip to Hong Kong to pick up my Knolly. So pics will be up once I get back, still waiting for forks and other parts so it'll be about a month before she sees dirt.
I so stoked about getting a Knolly that I don't even mind going to sh!thole HK this time.
sikocycles 06-24-2007, 09:27 AM Awesome my V-tach should be in this week and now just have to wait for my Endorphin
Real nice.
It's pretty hard to imagine anything that much better than having two Knollys.
Godzilla or somebody should come up with a quote for that one.
It great to see the Knolly family growing.
flynnet 06-24-2007, 12:39 PM I got mine on Wendsday! Unfortunatly I am on a buisness trip now so I havent been able to see it yet but my buddy took a picture and sent it to me:
274418
drool.....
Congratulations!!!!! I know how happy you must be, feeling the same way myself.
Yup, she's a beauty.
What color is that, btw? Knolly paint jobs seem to have very different hues to them at different angles and lighting. Guess you can say the same for many bikes, but the Knolly is just so 'mysterious' that way.
That's just a little extra to add to the drool factor.....
sikocycles 06-24-2007, 01:01 PM After the V-tach and the Endorphin get here I may get a XL D-T also.
flynnet 06-24-2007, 01:04 PM It is supposed to be metallic green powder coat but my buddy said it looks more like metallic grey. I cant wait to finally see it in person but that wont be until next thursday. The suspense is killing me.
Nice, I say, go for it. You know it's going to be worth it. Nothing like a nice ride, or three of them.....

Either way, it looks nice. It's a keeper.
Yeah, I feel what you feeling, with luck and prompt delivery, I should see mine sometime on Thursday.
It's like waiting to see your firstborn.

You order the frame only or did you get a complete build?
Frame only, got enough parts except a new 66 and etype fd.
I'm stoked for you too, at least you've got yours at your place already, I've got a ways to go yet....
yoginasser 06-24-2007, 02:23 PM I love what you've done with the place!
So did you pick out a name yet?

Nice, you gettin the 66 SL1? The frame cost me so much money that I had to make a couple compromises on the fork. I got a 2005 model 66 that I will install now and then maybe in a couple months when this years 66 models are on sale I will grab the SL1 then.

Hey 1+1 !
We just built up your frame, QC'd it and now it's on the way to Different Bikes in North Vancouver.
Sorry - don't have the camera at work today (being Sunday), otherwise I would have snapped a couple of pics too :)
Cheers!
sikocycles 06-24-2007, 03:21 PM Hows those endorphins coming? Thats why you are there on a Sunday. Cant wait to lay eyes on my Vtach this week. I know it will come in on my day off.
I love what you've done with the place!
So did you pick out a name yet?
Thanks, bro.
Nope, I don't usually name my bikes.
I'm attached to my bikes, don't get me wrong, but I'm more attached to the riding. Plus I'm unimaginative.

I'm getting the rcx2, found a good deal here this (http://www.jensonusa.com/store/product/FK402A14-Marzocchi+66+Rc2x+07.aspx)
I know how much it hurts to dish out so much for a frame at one time. But I see it this way, I get at least 3 frames in 1 for say the next 4/5 years minimum. That's a steal.
I wanted to wait for the new 55 and 66 actually, but I know some of the prices already through my lbs, and they're not that much cheaper. I say get the sl when prices start getting slashed to make room for new stock. There'll be good deals out there real soon.

Noel, thank you so much for going to work and putting my frame together on your day off.
No worries about the pic, I'll see it soon enough when I get to HK.
PS, can I post the pics of the other frame colors you sent me, so people can do more drool damage to their keyboards?
yoginasser 06-24-2007, 10:10 PM My top choices at this time would be LingLing or BabaGanoosh.
My top choices at this time would be LingLing or BabaGanoosh.
I know, wait a minute, that's what I was going to call our kids, till my wife says no, no explanation given or anything.
But seriously, it's just hard for me to come up with names for bikes, no matter how nice they are.
I save the naming for 'my' trails. I'm going to name one after my Delirium T. It'll be "I'm doing it when my Knolly gets here".
It's here, just hauled it 1500+ km by bus, train, plane and car from HK all the way home.
It's true, all the pics I've ever seen do not do these frames justice. They're the sweetest frames out there, bar none.
I'll be posting pics up in a day or two. IMO, there are not enough pics on the knolly website for people like us who has to buy such an expensive frame online. These frames are way better built than you'll expect and the attention to detail, much talked about already, but saying it again, is flawless.
Now I'm waiting for my forks and f. der. to show up before I can build it up and ride it.
yoginasser 07-01-2007, 03:01 AM :band:
yoginasser 07-04-2007, 01:40 AM Looks real good man!
Yogi, thanks for the compliments. That should go to the people(Noel and co.) who put these pieces of art together. It's seriously the strongest frame I've ever seen and owned.
It should be built up in the next couple weeks. I can hardly wait. On the minus side, my other bike wouldn't be out much once I get the Knolly rolling.
I'll be posting ride reports once I've had a few rides in.
PCinSC 07-04-2007, 06:17 PM Naked Delirium T p0rn
Oh man, I'm lusting after that frame. That swingarm looks super stiff. I may seriously have to get a test ride on one of those things. Or maybe I shouldn't.
Now build that sucker up and post some ride pics! (so I can be even more jealous)

I've lusted after this frame for a long time as well. Everything, and I mean every part of the frame is super stiff. To test ride or not to test ride, I say, if have the chance, you should. You must. I bought one and got it shipped without even laying eyes on one in person. I had about 5 days of buyer's regret after I wired the money. Till I picked up the package and saw the frame. It is worth it. Definitely.
I've spent hours checking out the frame from every different angle, and the pics I've posted just like the other pics posted do not do these frames justice. Every single little part and how they're put together is flawless. It's tougher than a Hell's Angel, yet beautiful enough to be exhibited at MOMA.
Just waiting for my forks to show up and then I can build 'er up. Ride reports would be up in less than a month. I really don't want to make anybody jealous, but I'll try to give all the info I can gather from riding this frame so others can make an informed decision to get a Knolly or not. After all, it's not a cheap frame........
Lucky bastard:D
I wouldn't even try to deny that charge.

I'm sure they have some sort of auction thing, never been there myself.
Now hang on tight while I wait for all my parts to be in.
kristian 07-05-2007, 07:15 AM Nice! I can't wait to hear your first riding impressions!

I'm equally stoked myself. I'm already smiling from thinking about it.
PS any more p0rn while we wait?
006_007 07-20-2007, 02:21 PM 1+1, Any news on your build/ride impressions?
for my fork and fd to show up. Should be here in about a week or so.
I'll have her built by mid-Aug. I'll post pics and ride report when ready, for sure.
1+1, Any news on your build/ride impressions?
Ok, I've got all my parts together, well, almost, just waiting for a headset.
Anyways, I've got a question for people running a drs in their setup. Do you take off the bottom part off the etype derailleur that is supposed to be clamped onto the bb and directly bolt the derailleur onto the drs backplate?
sikocycles 08-01-2007, 06:10 AM If you have the right DRS backplate the FD clamps right onto it.
006_007 08-01-2007, 09:04 AM Yes, the derailleur bolts right onto the DRS plate (at least it does on my v-tach and I am pretty sure the mounting is the same between the two frames)

Yup, get rid of the stock Shimano BB bracket and bolt the E-type front derailleur straight to the DRS back plate. You will need to put that 2.5mm thick black washer between the front derailleur and the back plate for the bolt that goes into the frame.
Cheers!

Sikocycles, you got those pics yet?
sikocycles 08-04-2007, 08:21 PM Got 2 days of pedaling on the V-tach. Cross country stuff. Pedals real well despite the weight. Still trying to dial in the real shock. Very impressed on how well it feels and how plush it is. Taking it to the mountains the weekend and see how it does.
Endorphin at the end of the month and than will save for a D-T.
Pictures will come soon.
Got 'er built up. No ride time yet. Just got back from the city.
The 5 minutes I had ridden it so far, I was just so blown away by how balanced it is and how well it pedals for a bike a hair under 40lbs. It actually pedals as good, if not better than my ss'ed Implant. Will go for a ride to get shocks dialed in.
The 66 rc2x feels not good at all. Anybody have any suggestions on getting it dialed in? I weight about 150lbs with gear on. Thanks.
Will post pics up real soon.
Sikocycles, good to hear that you're out on your V-tach already. I suppose I need a few 'xc' days in as wells just to get the suspension dialed. Yeah, I'm just super impressed at how good my D-T feels. It weighs twice as much or more than my ht, but the handling is smooth as butter.

Hey - try these settings as a starting point:
Boost valve volume: it should be set about 0.5 - 0.625 of a turn IN from the maximum volume size. The V-tach is fairly progressive so you won't need to turn this in very much.
Boost Pressure: I would try around 130-140 psi for your weight
Propedal: around 1-5 clicks from the Min setting.
Rebound: to your preference of course.
Let me know how that works out!
Cheers,
sikocycles 08-05-2007, 12:21 PM Coming off my Dekerf team 853 there is alot difference in weight but I still can make some of the climbs except the real steep ones..
One word is the bike feel natural. Dont need to fight it.
Noel I will try those setting today. Going for a ride in a little while.
Just came back from the first ride on the Delirium.
Suspension is not dialed in yet, still working on that.
Besides that, it climbs really, really well.
Descending is scary fast, especially on a wet, slippery day like today, need to run a 203mm disk up front, waiting for the post mount adapter to be here.
I still need to get the bike dialed in, probably take a few more rides.
I'm beat, will post more up later.
006_007 08-07-2007, 09:30 PM *cough* *cough* *cough* pics *cough* *cough* *cough*

sikocycles 08-08-2007, 06:28 AM 006_007 why you selling your V-tach?
006_007 08-08-2007, 12:17 PM It is difficult to attach my training wheels to it... :D
Seriously though, my mind has not been in the right place for that type of bike for the past few years since I landed on my head / fractured/compressed a few vertabrae. So I am going to off the V-tach and get something that is more suitable for my riding style (Another Knolly)
Will only sell the V-tach if I can find the right owner for it though.
006_007 why you selling your V-tach?
This bike is amazing. Pedals really, really well and climbs amazing for a just under 40lbs bike. Descends like a dream. Amazing how stable it is in rocky chunder, yet so agile in tight twisty singletrack. This is my impression from the first two rides. I'm failing for words right now to describe how she handles.
Go out and test ride one if you can and you'll know what I mean.
Just came back from a ride. My face hurts from smiling so hard.
This is one sweet ride.
I'll do a more in depth write up once I've had more time on the Delirium T.

Kristian, thanks.
I've having the time of my life on this bike, seriously.
Now I know what you Knolly owners are all raving about. There ain't no kool aid. Just the truth.
I'm the last person in the world to market someone else's product, but if you haven't try a Knolly out, do yourself a favor and throw your leg over one.
This is the single most worthwhile item I've ever spent money on in 17 years of riding.
And this coming from someone who's a diehard hardtailer.
sikocycles 08-10-2007, 07:56 AM Nice build and sweet ride. Came together nice.
I will be getting one as soon as the wallet recovers for the v-tach and endorphin.
Nice build and sweet ride. Came together nice.

Tell me about the hurt in the piggy bank. I won't recover the shock to my life savings anytime soon, but, it's more than worth it.
The build is pretty generic, all the parts off my 06 RM Slayer, just new front der, stem and drs. The rest is a combo of X9, RF, Shimano, Mavic and a 66rc2x picking up front duty. Running 2.35" Maxxix Swampthings f&r. Build weight, just a hair under 40lbs.
Pedalling up is not a problem. I'm actually clearing stuff going up that I never did on my ht before.
Pretty much got front and back sus dialed in now, just a few more rides to get all my settings in for my trails.
PS, any v-tach pics?
006_007 08-10-2007, 01:47 PM I am going to add a word of caution to everyone on this statement.
do NOT test ride one of these bikes unless you have the funds available to purchase. They are so addictive, that if you can not afford to purchase one afterwards you will be a grumpy miserable sad person.
I am pretty sure even my mother would no longer be talking to me now if I did not have the funds to purchase my Knolly after Noel suckered me into test riding one of the bikes a few years back.
Awesome bikes.
1+1 - Nice looking build, looks like the dogs approve as well

mykel 08-10-2007, 08:36 PM Just picked up my new Delirium T
Had a quick shakedown ride - words pretty much fail me
..but I will echo others...
By far the best ride I have ever taken, and it is not anywhere near dialed in yet. Quite a shocking difference to my 06 RM Slayer. Going to have to give them a good back to back before the slayer gets put on the auction block - and the slayer is not a poor bike. The Knolly is stiff, pedals incredibly, goes uphill better than I ever dreamed, goes where it is pointed, holds a line, and has very good response to weight changes without being twitchy - it just goes on and on. Like the man said, DO NOT demo one of these unless you want to give Noel access to your bank-account.
For the record...
Large Black Ano
Fox DHX-Air 5.0
Magura Wotan fork
Magura Louise BAT 8" brakes
Hone cranks
Thompson stem and post
WTB Pure V saddle
Race Face Atlas bars
SRAM X9 shifters, rear deraileur,
XT front der
E13 DRS bash and guide
DT Swiss 340 hubs
DT Swiss 5.1 rims
Kenda Nev's 2.35 DTC
36.4 lbs
and BTW a large ano with DHX Air 5.0 weighs in at 10.5 lbs on the shop digi scale.
Regards,

PS Noel Thank-you once again, it has been a pleasure having you take all my money. An incredible bike from a great guy Cheers!!

Ok, this is true. Sorry I shouldn't get people to run out and test ride something they'll have to trade a kidney for if they don't have the fund to get one now.
sikocycles 08-11-2007, 02:32 PM Man now I so want a D-T also. Have to wait though. first is the endorphin.
The D-T sounds like a very fun bike.
Riding a Knolly has redefined drug addiction for me. The Knolly is a drug and riding it is an addiction. And when I don't get to ride(because of this non stop rain), I go into withdrawal. This has never happened before. This is not good.
Anybody else out there feel the same?
006_007 08-12-2007, 04:56 PM Dont feel the same as my Knolly LOVES playing in the rain :D

Mykel, nice build. I really like the Wotan forks on the Delirium. I just couldn't find one on sale, else that'll be what I would've gone with.
I also had an 06 Slayer 70 that I retired in Jan. because I liked my ht more. Although it's been more than half a year since I last ridden the Slayer, I still remember how it feels on the trails compared to the Knolly. And you're absolutely right, it's a shocking difference in the ride quality of the 2 bikes, even though they're marketed under the same 6" am/fr bike category. And you're also right that the RM is not a poor bike in any sense of the word to begin with. Just that one feels like a pony ride in an amusement park and the other is more like taking a Ferrari for a spin.
Hope you get to take yours out for a ride in the mountains soon, that's where the Delirium really shines. I'm lucky that way, I live at the foot of a 4000+m range of mountains where I don't have to share the trails with anybody else.
Have fun on your new Knolly. And post more riding pics up if you can.
Dont feel the same as my Knolly LOVES playing in the rain :D
006_007, took your advice and went out today during a break in the 3 day non stop rainstorm we're having. The trails are all slick, even my dogs were losing grip. But my Knolly loves it and I didn't bail even once. This is one sick bike.
Hey 1+1!

Noel, that's hilarious. I actually didn't know how the name for this frame got picked.
I like the part about the pink elephant hallucination.
And while my withdrawal is not as bad as what alcoholics/junkies go through, I can almost symphatize with them. I mean, you need to drink/shoot/smoke heavily for years to go through severe withdrawal when you quit.
I only had 3 rides(4 now after today) on the DT and already I'm going through some sort of withdrawal when I'm not riding. It's like somebody else who posted a reply to me once before I got my DT, about how the more you ride your Knolly, the more you want(need?) to ride your Knolly.

sikocycles 08-15-2007, 06:43 AM I will be getting it polished soon. Will strip the frame in the next week or so and it will become real shiney.
No stickers is so the g/f does not know what it is.
Once it is polished I will put stickers back on. Hopefully Knolly has them and I would like one for my truck.

Thats it.
I will be getting it polished soon. Will strip the frame in the next week or so and it will become real shiney.
No stickers is so the g/f does not know what it is.
Once it is polished I will put stickers back on. Hopefully Knolly has them and I would like one for my truck.
It'll be nice polished. I love my ano black, but if I ever get tired of it, I know what to do.
One of my Knolly stickers fell off too from too much handling when I had it only as a frame.
Funny thing is that I wanted a decal-free frame from Noel way back, but when it arrived, I actually want to keep the decals as they were so low key and they match my black frame.
I also would like Knolly stickers for my iPod, thermos, coffee mug, laptop, and anything else I can stick them on. I'll also like to stick one on the nose of a bullet train the next time I go to Japan and take a pic of that. Noel, please sponsor me with some stickers, please.
Ride update.
Yesterday, I went for a 2 hour+ push and rode some of the steepest trails I can find down. As expected, the performance was nothing short of being stellar. This with real wet moss on clay, roots, rocks etc. The usual wet steep stuff, you know.
Today's ride started with a 1000m+ vert fireroad climb. This thing climbs better than my SS, even with the added weight. How is this possible? And the down, I don't even need to take it apart and analyze it, save to say I'm clearing stuff I've only hoped not to get hurt on before.

sikocycles 08-15-2007, 07:13 AM I would have got black anno if they had one left. This was the last v-tach in stock. So I had to have it. I think polished will be awesome.

You'll probably have the first polished V-Tach in the world. Can't wait to see it when you're done.
sikocycles 08-15-2007, 07:44 AM I know there are a few brushed aluminum but no polished ones.
006_007 08-15-2007, 12:03 PM Yup, three were prototypes, and I believe one or two from the first production run. One of them is currently for sale on NSMB I think.

I road raced my Knolly this past Sat. with a team of road racers. I didn't win, of course, but I learnt a lot.
No. 1. I love my DT and would ride it anytime, anyplace.
No. 2. Road races are brutal( some guy ran into me at the start of the race and made me crash and broke one of my front spokes, and I had to ride with a wobbly rim the the entire race)
No. 3. Get some sleep before you race.
No. 4. While you can ride a mtb on a road, the inverse does not hold true.
No. 5. If you try to race a Knolly on road, at least take the time to figure out how to fit in the biggest chainring first.
No. 6. There are tires smaller than 2.1" somewhere out there.
PS. Can anybody let me know where I can find replacement Crossmax XL spokes online, please?
Forgot about this, but I've put in a review for the Delirium T (http://www.mtbr.com/reviews/Allmtn_Full_Suspension/product_126908.shtml)
I know, technically I haven't ridden the DT for 3 months, but I've been out almost every single day that I could since I've build the Knolly up. I just felt that I've known this bike forever, it just feels so right. Words cannot really describe how I feel about the Knolly. The review was an attempt to sum up my experiences so far.
I'll write up a more detailed review once I've gotten a solid 6 months in.
PS My review post is dated 9/9/2007
Been too busy riding to update lately. It's true, the more I ride my Knolly, the more I want/need to ride my Knolly. This has gone from being an obsession to more of an addiction for me. I'm not complaining, though.
flynnet 09-26-2007, 02:28 PM sweet man  . you gotta get some more shots of that knolly (the dogs can even pose if you want) :D . I will try and get some action pictures of my knolly up next week.

I'll try to get a few more pics up in the next few days when the weather clears up again.
Yeah, my dogs do love to pose, they're such poser dogs, haha.
There's some more pics here (http://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.php?t=307983) but some are double post of the pics here.
sikocycles 09-28-2007, 08:28 PM Cool pics. My endorphin should be here soon.
Cool pics. My endorphin should be here soon.
Sikocycles, thanks.
I'm also considering an Endorphin for my wife. They look really nice, not as hardcore looking as the DT or VT's, but sleeker and sexy as well.
Please post Endorphin ride reports. I'm sure I'm not the only person interested to hear how these bikes ride.
