I was interested in a motobecane fly pro, but can these bikes take drops? not huge drops just maybe 3-4 ft max. I also only weigh 130lbs. and am 5'3" so would the 16" fit me? thanks.

Um, the website says no hucking but I think occasional jumps would be fine.

But 3'-4' sounds even a bit big?

The fly pro series is uber at XC but I don't know much else about it. The frames are kinesium so they should be able to take the hits.

they might, being that you dont weigh much....but i wouldn't suggest doing it a lot....you'd be far better off with a comp ds that'll take 3-4 foot drops all day long with your weight...my buddy has a fantom comp hardtail, and he jumps it, and take it off 2-3 footers with a landing ramp, and he's had no probs...my kona hardtail is the same way...no probs at all....also, DONT think that because the flys are "kenisium" (aka, aluminum) they're any STRONGER than the fantoms....yes for the WEIGHT, they are stronger, but it's still aluminum, and it WILL fail if you mistreat it....

so you guys are saying the fantom comp frame would be better to take off drops 2-3ft to flat ground, then say the fly frame?

yep, that's what i'm saying....even then, i wouldn't do it all the time....the bike ISN'T MADE to be a freeride bike...if you want to do freeride, then buy a freeride bike....hell my fantom comp ds does well on 3-4 footers, but it wouldn't last too long if that's ALL i did....you need to buy a purpose built bike for whatever your riding purpose is....not try and use the wrong tool for the job....

Well said..... there are different bikes for different types of riding. An XC bike can perform like a Freeride bike but it won't last as long. If Freeride is your style, it is strongly recommended that you get a Freeride bike.

no i dont do freeride, but i just try to do some trials every now and then. maybe every other ride. ill jump off a small stage or something, or a park bench.

i dont see anything wrong with that....you just have to be smooth....being that you dont weigh a whole lot, you should be ok...whatever you do, post pics!

Of course the bike can take it, until it breaks.

We don't know if you are a smooth rider or what speed you are jumping or what kind of landing the jumps have. We know nothing.

But the bike will do ANYTHING until YOU break it.

Not sure if the Fly is the same as the Motobecane 700DS but I'm 5'6" and they said the 16.5" would fit me. It was a good 4+" too tall. Had to saw seat post down quite a bit. But now it fits just fine. :)
