I'm getting a little noise in the '03 1.0 frame which I believe is coming from the dogbone. Anyone else experience this? Seems like a small amount of dust or grime and next thing I know there's a bird chirping down there. It's more annoying than anything. I've tried some spray lube, but anything that can get up in the mechanics is sure to drain out as well.
I also wanted to service the eccentric and found that the dogbone allen bolt on the lower tube is frozen (soon to be stripped)... will probably have to use an easy-out and replace it. I've already replaced the small allen screws in the eccentric to avoid this problem again. I love the ride, but it sure seems susceptible to wear quickly.

Hopefully I am not raining on your parade. I have a '01 GT i-Drive Team frame. I heard some noise coming from the dogbone (or so I thought.) Turned out to be a crack in the weld, 3 out of 4 sides. The crack is located on the linkage above the eccentric. (I can e-mail pics if you want them.) Pacific offered to sell me a new rear triangle for $499, even though the frame was less than 2 years old! They lost a loyal GT rider, Iron Horse gained a new customer. Hopefully your "noise" is much less serious.

hope that's not the case with less than 1000K on it. I really feel it's noise generated from debris collecting in the eccentric/dogbone area. The sound actually travels up the downtube so it is misleading hearing it in the stem/fork area.

The infamous squeak drove me nuts tonight so started tearing things apart to track down the culprit. Turns out I was looking in the wrong place... the rear der. cable housing had a plastic ferrule and was rubbing inside the frame guide... replaced with metal and all is right with the world again. :D

You've got me scared: I'm hearing a creaking noise which seemingly is coming from the eccentirc dogbone area whenever I push down hard on the pedals... any ideas? I would be interested in seeing these pictures though. mogwaee-at-gmail-dot-com

I have a 2001 I-2.0. It was making quite a lot of noise from the eccentric area when I pedaled hard. Nothing when I coasted.
Since I was taking the bike to Jim Thorpe this weekend and did not have time to tear anything down I flushed out the eccentric with Simple Green and sprayed it with Tri-Flow. That seems to have quieted everything down for the time being. I'm bringing the bike to my LBS to let them have a closer look at this. I seem to remember the same problem two years ago which was fixed by the LBS who tore down the eccentric and relubed everything.
Other than that the bike is still running strong although I did have to replace the shock bolt on Friday.

my old i-drive ('01 3.0) used to make creaking noises from the eccentric when it needed new grease----re-lubing took care of the noise
