Well, I guess anything will work, but here is my build:

Singletrak Wheelset
IRC 2.5 Trailbears
XT FD
LX RD
SRAM 7.0 Cassette
SRAM PC-something or other chain
XT rapidfire shfters
XT 6" Hydro's
Manitou Sherman Firefly
Cane Creek ZS2 headset
Sette Stumpy 80mm stem (cheapy, but works)
Random $30 seatpost from LBS
Ducktaped and battered Specialzed seat
OURY grips
Bontrager Crow Bar 2.5" riser

I think that's it. I built it to be beaten, and the biatch seems to like it, so I think I'll keep her around. Can't beat the price either.

Take care! Brush your hair!

Hey,
I was hoping I could ask you a question about how you built up your bike. I just bought a Komodo frame and wanted to double check about the headset you used. So was the Zs-2 the right one for the job? Meaning it's a "zero stack" and not the "IS" headset standard?

I just ordered a WTB grease guard headset last night because I looked at the Jamis website and all they had was this years Komodo FX and last years Eureka to check for spec's. And neither of those bikes have integrated or zero stack headsets. But I got my frame unexpectedly three days early and I see that its the low profile with the cups already pressed into the frame permenantly. But when I went to look to get a headset ordered there are a few different diameters to choose from that I have seen, 44mm and 50mm. So I was unsure on which to get.

So how long have you had your Komodo built up? I got a 19inch for 179.00 off of e-bay. I see there were some even better deals to be had earlier in the year, too bad I missed out. I had purchased a Cannondale Chase as a freeride hardtail/playbike because it was so dam cool, and the only choice in town. (and I have no patience) But I have been having short seat tube remorse ever since I bought it! :) I live on the edge of town near the desert totally on the other side of town from the mountains. So although there are alot of trails and dirt roads to ride they hardly require the 6 inch travel trail bike I got last winter. So it has been really cool to have a hardtail again to go ride with on this side of town. Since it's 45 minutes to an hour and a half to get to the good trails, and there is not always time to mount a biking "expedition" after work. :) And for some reason even though the tire sizes are the same on both bikes. The hardtail rides through the sand way better than my VT2? But even with the superlong 450mm Thomson post I was still looking for another inch and a half of extension on some long killer climbs, and the road ride I have to get to the jumps and loading docks within riding distance. Plus I was really worried about the super long post being too much leverage on the frame and that I would end up with cracks in my future from the stress. So I figure the 19" Komodo should give me enough seat post to ride uphill and just general all around riding. And it hopfully will still be burly enough for me to go hit the jumps with. ( at least as high and far as I can jump now anyway! )

Anyway, so what are you thoughts on the frame? I was pretty shocked to feel how light it was!!! But I guess I didn't weight it, nor have I held a bare frame in a very long time. It seems extremely nice. I only wish it had a chain stay bridge too.

Thanks
Chris
