I am going to be in the Santa Fe area in a few weeks. I am looking for a shop to hook up with where I can rent a bike and see some of the local scenery. I would ideally like to go with a group of some sort. I am interested in fairly aggressive riding/single track sort of stuff. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
I think the only place that rents bikes in town is next to my office: Santa Fe Mountain Sports. They've got a whole rack of new Kona's (hardtails, I think). I could probably be available to act as tourguide and I'm sure others will volunteer as well. Post here a little closer to the time of your visit and I'll let you know what my schedule is like.

...both Sun Mountain Bike Co. and NM Bike & Sport rent bikes also.
NM Bike & Sport, 1829 Cerrillos Rd, (505) 820-0809
Santa Fe Mountain Sports, 607 Cerrillos Rd, # A, (505) 988-3337
Sun Mountain Bike Co., 102 E. Water St., (505) 982-8986
I don't have prices, or know what level of bikes they're renting, but you can call and ask. There are also a few decent guide books that those shops carry.

Last time I checked, Bike'n'Sport didn't do rentals anymore. Did they start doing it again? I had forgotten about Sun Mountain. Good luck to any out of towner who hopes to find East Water Street. I just happened to drive by there the other day and noticed Sun Mountain there. It looks like they're pushing the coffee shop aspect of their business more than the biking.

Just called NM Bike 'N Sport and they do NOT do rentals anymore. Bummer.
Re: Directions to Sun Mountain. Yep, they are kinda tucked out of the way, but not impossible to find. Re: coffee vs. bikes. When I was in there a few weeks ago they looked to really be gearing up for a rental and tour season. But I say just give them a call and ask.

rs3o-
looks like my only free day in town will be 6/24-is that a day that could possible work for you, or anyone else out there to do some riding? I guess I will try to contact some shops about getting a bike in the meantime-Thanks

Don't know if you saw the thread above about trail closures, but there might not be any trails to ride by the time you get here. <sigh> Los Alamos might have something open at that time, but maybe not. Check back here in another week.
