So Sea Otter is getting money hungry and has discontinued there practice of giving an extra event wrist band to racers. No way am I letting my buddys pay $30 to get in. Does anyone know what color they are using this year for the Event Bracelets?

$10 per day or $30 for 4 days.

Last year they got about $400 from me for camping, race entry and extra wrist bands.

This year they get $10 from me. I'm sure someone else happily took my place.

I used to love the camping end of the Sea Otter experience. This year, I'm loving the extra dough still in my pocket. Too bad they got greedy with the camping. Then again, it did sell out in no time. Somebody is willing to pony up that kinda dough.

i always got an extra pass. I'm not sure if it was included in the pack or I had to ask for the second one, but I always got 2 (at least the last 3 years).

Ah, that blows. I didn't feel so bad skipping on the race last year, knowing the fee I paid covered admission for two of us.

And with the price they're charging for the camping, I'm going to consider moving back to a Seaside hotel in '08.

If you're suggesting cheating to get in...

Of course you wouldn't do that right? Right??

At the Sea Otter it's not reffered to as "cheating", it's called "Poaching" :D

Poaching a $30 wrist band to get into an area where vendors paid big dollars to sell us gear while really bad burritos are selling for $7 seems like insanity to me. You wouldn't poach a crappy trail would you? Why poach a crappy venue?

Whoever ponied up the dough to camp this year must be hating it. Camping in the rain sucks ass. Besides after a race I would much rather go back to a hot shower than a fart stained tent and sleeping bag in the mud.

Although I am paying 200$ for a Hotel in Salinas (20min drive), I don't regret it at ALL! I did the beg. xc race, and although I wasn't muddy as people will be tomorrow, I did fall so I was bloody/dusty. It felt AMAZING to sit the bath tub with water running over me, Then after a shower I walked to the local diner and got a HUUUGE omlet. My point is, I couldn't have made a better decision. Salinas is just far enough, yet a 20 min drive to get to racetrack. While everyone was sitting in their tents in the rain, I took a nap ina king sized bed with a beautiful girl. Couldn't ask for more...

It seems that it was well worth the $200. You are a smart man. I do have one question though. Where do the campers keep their bikes?? in their tents or cars? or is there some kind of a guarded lock-up system there?

It's only "poaching" if you get caught. Am I right Berkeley Mike and Pimpbot?

OK, let's try this again: If you're not poaching, you're not trying!

When I got there this morning, there were bikes EVERYWHERE. Bikes leaning against trailers, bikes hanging by saddles on poles, everywhere. I mean, hell! In the hotel, while getting breakfast at 5am in the hotel, someone left their bike in the LAUNDRY ROOM! Totally open, totally stealable. I asked the lady if she knew a 3000$ bike was in the laundry room. Yeah, she said, she was watching it. Please. I could have easily walked in and rode it out. What an idiot, seriously... I was so surprised...

I always brought the whole fam damily, camped and loved it!!! 2 yeras ago it just got to expensive. Now it's just my sons and ridding biddies, we get a hotel Fri hit the ride Sat
pay the 10 dollars to check out the venue and get out of Dodge. It's much easier on the wallet.

I think there were a lot of not so smart things that the organizers did this year. Then again they are doing this to make money, its not a non for profit. I know yesterday I was a bit miffed that my wife was going to have to pay to get in even though I dropped the coin for the increased racing fee. This while she was a volunteer at one of the non for profit booths at the expo. Luckily somone was smart enough not to charge her. I was told by people at the booths that the fee to be at the expo was around $10K for the week. If I was one of the company guys dolling out that coin and then find out that they are making it more expensive for people to participate or enter the event, and provide a less than stellar racing experience, I would not be happy.

It only rained for 3-4 hours on Saturday. Great weather the rest of the time. And there are hot showers in the campgrounds.

it was an awesome weekend. The few hours of rain on Saturday made the trails absolutely perfect for Sunday. Friday and Sunday were warm enough that I'm sporting a sun burn on my neck.

Need I remind you of last year's misery? This weekend was 100% better weather wise...
