Are there any guys weighing in a 230lbs+ riding Rocky Mountain's all-mtn lineup?
Which frame/shock/fork do you run? Thanks in advance.

I have one of these (http://www.bikes.com/bikes/2003/etsx/etsx_50.aspx), which is their race version all mountain. I am in the same weight range you mention and have been very happy with it so far. I had to spend some quality time with a shock pump since the LBS had the shocks set to about half of what they needed to be, but since then, I have been very happy with it. I have ridden it on everything from gravel trails, commuting (different tires) to technical single track.

As far as the Slayer goes, I can not comment directly on how well it works, but I do know that there are guys here that ride them on the Vancouver North shore. Maybe a post on nsmb.com may net a few more answers, though I am sure that a number will be from people that will tell you that it will never work... :)

Nice ride Drek. I am considering the Slayer series. I figure I won't go wrong if I went with a titus (from Charles @ HammerHead), but I want to step back and spend a little more time with RM, Turner, and a few others. There is a great RM dealer/shop down the road, I figure I couldn't go too wrong with them either.

What I can do is keep an eye out for one of my co-workers. I see him sometimes in the morning or evening when commuting, I can ask him about the Slayer. He has one that he rides all over, he just isn't quite in our weight class ;)

Sorry, I did not think of this before, you could call Rocky as well. They are pretty good about answering questions on thier bikes. You can give them your details and they should be able to tell you whether it will hold up.

Rocky Mountain and a local Arizona RM dealer have been very helpful in answering questions. I would appreciate any criticisms you hear, especially from a non-dealer user. I do not doubt that it is a solid and economical 5" travel bike, but if there are any complaints I would sure like to hear them. Later!

the slayer with a fox vanilla should be plenty strong for you, unless you are planning to do lots of "freeriding". the slayer is a capable climber and now with a platform shock is an excellent climber. i have raced my slayer and did fairly well. i have also done a lot of rough trail riding and it has held up well. i did have a chainstay break but rocky has addressed the issue and i got a replacement right away. no more problems.
