Is Bear Brook any good??
I'd say that it is good.
It's got all levels of riding, from real easy dirt roads, & pleasant double track to real difficult single track, & some very difficult climbs. You can get a pretty good map at the toll both.
I don't get up there as often as I would like, it's a bit of a drive from Nashua for weekdays.

Hey Minkhiller nice pictures, I have ridden that beautiful trail in the second photo dozens of times after the stunning trough like downhill section right before it but where the heck is the first one from. I don't think I'd have the courage to ride that one but it's definately a trail I've never bumped into.

I can't remember the names of the trails but if you go south on the main doubletrack trail you will run into it on the right hand side as it crosses the main trail and head back to the parking lot. I don't think there are any set hours that you can or can't ride but you can ask at the park.

Try the Bear Brook Challenge race there next year (already happened this year). It does a 14 mile loop twice that seems to cover most of the terrain including that tricky staircase in that pic.

Just rode for two hours yesterday at bear brook including the trail with the log stairs (carr ridge trail) which is 2nd most technical in park, Ledges trail is probably the most technical in the park with multiple stone staircases, Catamount trail is a great technical climb and decent . Bear brook is a great place to ride, there is tons of "hidden" single track in the park especially off the end of Podunk road by hall mountain. There is a nice single track loop around Hall mountain marsh if you can find it. The lost trail is a great epic ride but is usually better in the fall because of water issues. Dont forget to say hi to the Leavitts off the chipmunk trail. Be sure to get a trail map at the toll booth when it is open.

I always have a snickers bar with the Leavits when I'm on the Chipmunk trail, quiet people they are.
The ledges trail is amazing, never been to carr ridge or that singletrack near Hall Mt...yet

It looks like we should plan a MTBR Bear Brook ride some weekend. Would you guys be up for it?

I would definately be up for it, Sunday mornings are always free but I'm flexible, any weekend after this one works.
You won't catch me riding down those stairs though. :)

Its not that bad...Even on a hardtail with a SID, in the mud, during a race its not that bad. just make sure you tighten your helmet:)

I rode there last fall, it was awesome!
I can't remember the name of the trail but we came down this hill and it was all birch trees with yellow leaves......
Awesome, that's why I came back to New England!
Lotsa varied terrain, I live minutes from Fort Rock, and this had some great climbs, longer than what I have in Exeter.

Let me know, I'll be up for a Sunday morning ride.

Bear Brook is on rt 28 between Allenstown and Epsom. You will see a big brown sign for the road to Bear Brook. After the booth where you pay to get in there is a road on the right that says biker parking if I remember right, does this sound right to someone more familiar than I?

"After the booth where you pay to get in there is a road on the right that says biker parking if I remember right, does this sound right to someone more familiar than I?"

Pay the $3 at the booth then drive straight down the road for 1 1/2 - 2 (?) miles. You'll drive out of the park, past some houses & horse places. Look for the brown park Hiker/Biker parking lot sign on the right, turn in there, go down a bit, look for the house on the left, turn in to the parking lot on the right.

If I'm not too pooped from the trail building the day before, I may join you. Maybe even talk the hub-ster into joining me.

OB, I will be there on Saturday also so no pooped excuses allowed :D I still want Harry to try my bike so I could bring pedal wrenchs for it.

I'll definately be there if we can all manage a morning ride, have plans for later in the afternoon. 9:00 or 10:00 would be great for me but can go a little earlier or later if need be.
I went for a very gruelling ultra fast pace ride last night with Severum and a couple of his friends last evening, 3 complete trails that I've never ridden, including the Carr Ridge stairs  top night.

Mink - do you have a route picked out yet. The upper part of Chipmunck isn't really in riding shape and lowland is still a swamp. I'd dig going out for a ride with you guys.

You guys want to meet in the lower parking lot on the Hayes field side? You know, the one next to the end of Bear Brook Trail and Little Bear Trail.

If you have a route in mind, I'd love to hear about it.

I don't know the trails that great so maybe you could be the leader? Is that the parking lot on the right after you turn at the biker/hiker sign?

Mink - Nice Yeti. You spared no expense on that ride.

I would be very happy to plan a route. I know the trails very well.

Who needs directions and where are you coming from?

It would be nice if we got a nice turn out.

Looks like Mink, Dave, Greg and Dan are on the list.

OldBroad, do you think you will make it? Have the husband come along. The drive up will be worth it.

Be sure to bring the good bug dope everyone. You will get chewed up otherwise. Good news is that out of four guys on a two hour Bear Brook ride, I didn't hear of any tick sightings. Lots of flying biters though. Half way through the ride we got the Deet out, which solved the problem.

The Yeti yeah but I wished I hadn't seen the new ASR's at Mt Snow today...way cool. I believe I have one more rider coming from the NEMBA forum.

Looks like me and Dave may have two more riders. Anyone else have any updates on how many riders will be coming.

I have a route picked out now. I'll let everyone know the route before we leave so the fast riders will know where to point thier bikes as they wait for the rest of us at the trailheads.

I am gonna start a new post to see if we can get a little more interest.
