Forgive me if this has already been addressed

I am just curious at this stage, but has anyone done a 96er conversion on a hardtail or full suspension. I've been looking at numbers (axle to crown) on standard forks and 29er forks and it seems like there are some possibilities.

Lets take a 2007 Jamis Dragon Comp for example.

It comes with a Manitou Relic Super 100mm travel fork that has an axle to crown height of 470mm. If you went with a Rock Shox Reba 29er 80mm fork, it would have a axle to crown height of 472mm...2mm will not alter the headtube angle (71.5 in a 19" frame) significantly.

Of course, there would be questions of frame clearance fork the fork crown and adjustment knobs, but otherwise in theory it seems like it would work.

Anyone ever tried something like this?

Did you take into account that a larger wheel will be in there? A Reba is closer to 485mm, BTW.

A quick google should bring up a couple dozen similar threads to this one, right here :-)

strait from SRAM

An 80mm Reba is 472mm...

But no, I didn't take into account the extra ~1.5" of height from the larger wheel...good point

I find the 472mm to be a little short...I assume that number is with some sag included, whereas the Manitou is not including sag.

This has been covered before many times over. Do a search for 96er or 69er...
