at 8:30am. A few of us are meeting a little before a ride on Saturday, May 29th. If enough of us show up we can bang this out in about 15min. Mergs and I are bringing trash bags and I believe he's driving a pick up that day to haul away any collected trash. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Please, we need all the help we can get! The place is a mess.

Recommend that anyone joining us bring work/garden gloves. Also, and I plan on bringing "handi-wipes" as well, so we're nice and clean prior to hitting the trails. ;)

I just spoke to Ranger Fitzgerald at Ringwood State Park. She is aware of what we're doing and extremely thankful. Its opening day at the park so they're swamped, but she will try to come by and meet us and thank us for the effort in the morning. She said that we can bag up the garbage and leave it in the lot, as they'll haul it away later for us. She told me a specific spot to put the bags, which I'll show everyone that morning. We don't necesssarily need to haul it away ourselves.

She is in receipt of the complaint letter, by the way. I don't think that they have proper funding to solve the problems immediately. But long term, she told me that RW SP is looking into making that lot an "official lot", with better facilities such as a composting toilet and garbage bins, but the budgeting is still being approved at this time. (Maybe Gov McGreevey can divert some of that money, used on radio and TV commercials touting his "new improved EZPass" and the new "Div of Motor Vehicles", to a couple of toilets and a 50 gal drum to throw garbage in.)

Bottom line RWSP is aware of us coming out and its good that we've let them know about it. You never know if a hiker got upset by a biker (riding by at warp speed) and then the hiker lodged a complaint. Things like this help improve our image, not too mention do something good for the parking lot!

for taking action on this issue and keeping everyone informed on what's going on.

I'm planning on coming out to help in the morning so I'll see you then!

hey mergs. thank you for making that call. let's hope we get a decent turn out for the clean up. also, i realize that a lot of people check out this board (lurkers, you know who you are) so even if you can just come by for only 10 minutes and give us a hand it would be really helpful. remember, this is for all of you!

That plan sounds good to me. I need to be home by noon myself.

See you all in the morning!

thanks for letting me tag along on Saturday. Riding with a group of experienced guys surely inspires me to keep on pedaling harder.

Thanks too for making sure I got back to my car ~grin

Amazing how much garbage can be picked up by 4-5 people in less than 30 minutes!
