I am planning a trip to N. Georgia in July. I will be in the area one maybe two days. I want to ride some singletrack while I'm there. I'm an Intermediate rider and when I get ballsy I dable in the advanced sections, but I want to ride some good singletrack on an actual mountain. I am from Maimi Florida and have riden as far north as Santos in Gainsville about 5 years ago. So far I have been told Blankets Creek, and Bull Mountain, which I understand are about 45 min. drive time from each other. Any and all your help would be appriciated.

If you want a real mtn, and the some of the best true mtn singletrack in Ga, ride Stanley Gap as an in and out. Its a tough climb both ways tho...yes indeedy, and you will walk a very small amt, but only for a few yards here and there probably. But the payback both ways is THE best in the state IMHO thats the most Pisgah-ish ta-boot. Blankets is nice buffed singletrack(I live real close to it and ride it way too often)being about 10 miles worth over 3 loops, but its near Atlanta and is all rolling foothill stuff with some short steeps and such(xc race course-ish), but not what your asking for. Bulls a nice climb with a nice surrounding network(lots of horse use tho, and a far amt of converted roadbed, as Bull is itself), but its not nearly as challenging..nor has the great never ending singletrack that Stanley Gap is. You ride Stanley and Flat Creek together, and you'll be ready for the showers.
Stanley Gap(Green mtn and Flat Creek trails are at the same trailheah also)is about 1.5hr north of Atlanta straight up 575 and just east of Blue Ridge.
Also, now that a new 5 mile section of the Pinholti(thats almost all singletrack)has been completed thats connected to Bear Creek, its a kickass ride now(was too short for my taste up till now). Do an in and out with Bear, then near the bottom of Bear, turn up on the Pinholti for some great climbing/descending, that makes a great loop back to the FS rd your parked on and back to your car. Its about 35 minutes from Stanley, and also straight up 575 off of 52 just west of Ellijay.
Both locations are easy to find as well.

http://www.sorba.org/Content/ContentCT.asp?p=67 and also http://content.mtbr.com/pscTrails/United,States,Trails/Georgia/pls_4541crx.aspx Also, Duckman's threads under Passion and under this site back a ways will show you some way cool digital pics of the Bear Creek and Jake/Bull trail areas....the way it appears thru Spring and Summer. I was the guy you talked to at Rack & Roll Wednesday, as I was in picking up some new rear wheel clamps for my V2's. Give a hollar to any of us if you're up this way in July....sometimes you can hook up a ride in advance on a Sun. or Wed. out of the Cartecay shop by calling ahead to see their shop ride schedule. Their phone number and e-adress should be on the first link I posted. Shorter rides with good singletrack can be found southeast of Atlanta (Dauset Trails), northwest of Atlanta (Blankets Creek), or a bit further northeast near Gainesville, Ga. (Chicopee Woods or the Ag center) But the Ag center race course may be closed on or before 8-1-04 Keep checking the Sorba website. Later, Tom
