Would you be willing to give a mini-review of the Lithium?
The 3.0 for 1200 sounds like a great deal.
I'm specifically interested in the frame, as I'd likely trasfer a bunch of parts over.

Any info is appreciated.
Thanks!

Yeah, the Lithium looks like an interesting one.

Is the dog barking or howling? Is it a wolf mix or something?
Yeah, the bike defidently looks sick!

I got the frame used from somebody who got it off a K2 factory racer (no really, I checked it out).

I have a feeling it was beaten on pretty hard by the original owner. Issues I've had:

busted BB pivot bolt
BB bearings failing, I need to replace them at some point, I got the kit, I just need to do it.
butsted shock pivot bolt
cracks around/loose water bottle bosses
dented downtube from a bike rack clamp (my fault, dang that tubing is thin)

K2 has been more than helpful with my issues.

That said, I love it. It's fast, nimble, stiff, light and wasn't too expensive. Well, the frame is light at 5lbs, 3 oz. The rest of my bike has some heavy parts, like the M525s, the Titec DH stem and Seatpost, and Avid Discs. Total weight, 27 lbs. I would like to get this down to the 25.5 range, but I don't wanna give up the pedals.

... uses a 4-bar (non-horst) design. From what I can tell, it is real similar to what Kona has been doing for years. Rear travel is adjustable to either 4 or 5". It has a real tall front end, so much that I can barely have any stand over clearance on my large's TT (5'-11", 32" inseam) So it does ride high off the ground - but any 5" bike will have a higher ride height than an xc bike.

In it's stock form It was about 29 lbs. I have replaced everything except the bb, headset, brakes and shifters/der. Right now it is down to 28lbs -- (heavier fork - Fox Talas - lighter everything else) which is pretty respectable for a 5" trailbike.

Climbing efficency is nowhere near the Razorback, but with it's reasonable light weight, a smooth cadience, and the Swinger 3-way rear shock, it makes it suprisingly tolerable. When I am doing a long fireroad climb, I will set the rear to 4", and crank my Talas down all the way to 85mm. I have nothing but good words for the Swinger - supple when you want it, stiff when you need it. In fact, I would suggest you buck up for the 4.0 or 5.0 just for the reason that it comes with a swinger air instead of a fox vanilla coil.

When the trail turns downhill, it really sucks up the bumps and puts a smile on your face. All day rides definetely don't beat me up as much as my Razorback. As far as durability, I only have about 500 miles on it, but no issues so far. I have put 3000 miles on the razorback with no problems with the frame, so I do trust K2's quality.

My only real complaint would be that they spec'ed an intergrated headset - but again - no problems so far.

Steve3 - the dog is a (pure) Malamute, and she is howling. Any time the bike comes out of the garage she assumes it is time for her run and howls in anticipation!

Why whats the matter with it?

It's an old outdated design. Beyond that, I'm just personally not fond of K2 in general. I think they make crappy bikes, using crappy designs and ideas. Maybe it's just the fact that they haven't made any bike I would want to ride personally. I liked the EVO and think it's truly the best bike they ever made, my only real problem with it was it got outdated fast. I mean what real freeride bike can only run a true size 2.1 - 2.2 tire??? A 2.3 should be the minimum and the only way to accomplish that on the EVO was with a 24" wheel. It's too bad because I had hopes when they were rebadging Intense bikes for Andrew Shandro, that something may evolve from that. But oh well.

That's why the EVO is gone and now I ride this...

I have not ridden a Stinger, but heck.... for $300 from ediscountbike.com, it's hard to loose.

I can say this: It doesn't have Horst Link (It's faux-bar), but it still pedals really well. The lockout is quite handy as well. On long fireraod grinds, I alternate between sit-and-sping and out of saddle grunting, and it always seems to get me up the hills pretty efficiently.

The stock lockout lever is krapp and takes up a bunch of bar space, so I'll tell you what I did. I went to ReCyclerey in San Rafael (the sell used donated old bike parts and use the money to fund biking trips for inner city kids) and found a set of old stem mounted shifters from a roadie, took one lever off, and put a suntour friction shifter on in it's place. I also replace the bolts with alu bolts so save a tad of weight. It takes up way less room, which I need 'cause my bars look like this when rigged for night riding/racing:

had her since '01 (leftover '00 model), and has been through MANY 'revisions' in that time. Still an all-around trailbike for me, living in southern NH you NEED to climb the hill to descend it.
The Boxxer is new but of the half dozen times ridden it really hasn't changed my climbing abilities. The bike had a Pyslo Race so I am still collecting parts as I learn the new character, like a larger tread in front etc etc etc. Oh and the Hopey is out for service....
I can totally agree with RED5's perspective, being that K2 just doesn't make a bike to live up to his skill level. It works for me though, being a 'light' freerider/ aggro-trailbiker, or whatever the heck you want to call it.
I'll kill some time here....
My '00 K2 Evo 3 parts spec currently is:
'03 Boxxer Race ($475 shipped w/short crown from cambriabike.com :) ) 7"
'02 Fox Vanilla RC ($125 new/ wouldn't fit on fellow Evo riders med frame) 8.5" w 2.5" i to i increasing travel from stock 4.7" to approx 6.75"
8" Avid fr & 6" Avid r
King 20mm fr /King Discotech rear to mavic x317's, Dt db 14/15 spokes, splinedrive nips handbuilt by me :)
Hopey Steering damper, amazing! should be a stock item/option for ALLOT more bikes
Conti 2.1 Vert fr & r
XT everything else but LX fr derail & pc69 chain
Future Plans are:
Push the Fox
Get a HiteRite for chits & giggles
Enduro seals for the Boxxer
2.3 or 2.5" for the front tire

And just wanted to point those that don't know to the definitive Proflex/K2 forum

I had it powdercoated a few years back, couldn't take the stock paint job
The guy did an amazing job matching it up to the King hubs and headset, and the fade was much better done than I thought possible with powder. Uber durable, the only scratches are from me laying down on rocks with the bike attached.

Since assembling it a couple weeks ago, the friend I built it up for (she's lusted after the frame since I got it in december) still hasn't ridden it, and I also yanked off the remote lockout lever since I found it relatively useless and had a tendency not to reset properly when you switch it off (and I personally can't stand shock lockouts as I so RARELY - maybe once a year - actually ride anyplace where there's a long enough smooth granny climb that'd benefit from the feature). I'm also debating switching to another koski lite front v-brake and a lighter front wheel until such time as I put together a lightweight disc wheelset for the thing.

There have to be more K2 riders out there.

Just to give you guys more bike porn, I'll post a sort of K2. It's the Turner Stinger. The Razorback design was licensed from Turner. ... the Stinger has chainstay rear pivot points instead of seat stay, more like Horst link/4-bar rather than the Razorback's 'Faux Bar' suspension, which is really just a fancier looking single pivot.

Not that I'm knocking the Razorback's suspension... I love the way my bike climbs and handles

I see they made the seat tube longer and put a gusset between it and the top tube for the '03s. I have an '02 and it was a bear to find a seatpost long enough for me (that I could actually afford). I ended up with a Titec, which is nice, but kinda heavy.

And of course, you have the sweet sweet Fox shock instead of the Noleen Mega Air. the Mega Air is decent, but not exactly specacular.

I had to sell my first '01 Razorback (Grassroots edition) for financial reasons. Now I have this Team model ... 22.6 lbs and pretty tough!! I believe the '01 razors were better made than the new models excluding the shock (Easton tubes!!).

I recently thought I had to upgrade to the Fox shock because of leaking air, but K2 has adressed the problem. They now offer a fix kit that includes 2 o-rings instead of the stock square profile rings - free for the asking. Now let me see ...free or $400 for the Fox shock plus the required seat stay. I did the upgrade and have had no problems!

... the upgrade kit was $285 including the seat stays and hardware. Has that changed? I was hoping to buy it at one point. The Noleen Mega Air is okay, but not stellar.

I'm not sure of the exact amount. I know for sure the shock is $209. I'm not sure about the seat stay. I think it was Michael at K2 quoted the price of the seat stay at around $100.

I have never ridden the Fox shock. I'm sure it is better than the Noleen, but at $300 I can deal with it - especially with the o-ring fix being free of charge. It's a good performer but ... not stellar. Just add another $300 and you could buy a brand new 2003 model and sell your old '01 for some money back ... if you wanted a new model. Ebay has got em:

does your 2.0 have disc mounts on the fork? does it have a front disc hub? if so you can mount any disc on it.
I've got a formula B4 gold series on my 1.0 with a Sun Rhynolite wheel and formula disc hub.
ITs my commuter bike, and I just mountes a SUntour NEX 4000 on it , bought it brand new on ebay for 20 bucks. I ended up buying three forks at that price and being new. it has 75mm of travel which is plenty for the street/light trails. Pulling the size of trailer I do with it I need the front disc.

The trailer is made of 100% 6061 aluminium tubing. the wheels are 16 inch plastic type wheels which are excellent on this trailer.
The hitch is 100% stainless and clamps to the chain and seat stays.
I will take pics of both the hitch and trailer tonight for you. Total cost for both was slightly over 1,000 CAD.

It's just a bad design
Hmmm. Simple design, bombproof frame, little pedal-induced bob, same pivot location as say the C'dale Gemini or the new Prophet, able to be configured as a sub 26lb XC rig or a 35lb freeride/downhill bomber and work well as either. I'd say there's nothing bad at all about the Evo frame other than its simplicity. It was way ahead of its time and K2's marketing practices limited its resale value. The only thing bad about it was the suspension quality, which can be remedied by numerous upgrades. (Not that the suspension itself was terrible, just the durability of the parts was significantly lacking).

Hardly a "bad design." Just ask anyone who still rides one...

My second FS was the 99 K2 Flying Monkey. This was it's first incarnation after all the modifications. I replaced the Chubby with a MegaAir, LX cranks, new wheels using Mavic F519 rims on XT hubs with Fire Xc Pro tires and 0* x 135 stem. This thing was a XC monster.

Doug4sail that looks sweet, I am running tioga red phoenix 1.90 and they seem to complimant the bike real well on fast single track, I just picked up a Thompson straight seat post yesterday as I think the laid back Ritchey on it now hurts my positioning in climbs just a bit, so I thought I would try a straight. Good luck with your bike, I know you are going to love it :)

This mostly stock 2006 Apache 6.0 belongs to Ethan Gilmour, a junior XC and cyclocross racer from Southern Vermont. Depending on which Kenda tires he's running to suit course conditions, it weighs either a little or a lot less than 25.5 pounds.

This is another one of Ethan Gilmour's race bikes for 2006. Since K2 Bike no longer makes a cross-country racing focused hardtail, I dug deep into the archives to pull out this 2004 Zed Team, with custom flower paint and graphics that was team issue for the Ford Cycling Team. Parts spec is very similar to the 2006 Apache 6.0, with a SID World Cup fork with 80mm travel that's more appropriate for the geometry than the Apache's 100mm R7 Super. Weight between 23 and 23.5 pounds, depending on tires.

I more recently switched the fork to a 100mm travel R7 Comp and a seatpost with less offset. Still handles well after switching the shock mounting position, and a lot more fun on rougher trails than with the 80mm Skareb.

This is my wife's Zed Team.

167426

She's not a huge fan of the flowery graphics of the K2 Bike T:Nine women's line, but does wish that it had chartreuse-colored accents, like the T:Nine Lotta Luv skis.

167427

One of the best things we did in setting this bike up for her was build another pair of wheels with 26 x 1.0" MTB road tires. With the SID fork locked out and the skinny tires, it's pretty efficient on road. Just don't pedal through corners! ;)

Cheers,

I've had this frame for four years now and it's been a great bike. It's had several upgrades over the years and will get several more before it retires, if it ever does. Rear shock has been upgraded twice, once to a Fox vanilla R and just recently, to a Manitou six way coil. Next will probably be a five inch travel fork since the swinger gives the back over six inches of travel.

RhinoDave

The frame is fairly stiff with the aluminum swingarm. The 4.0 with the carbon swingarm is generally considered to be a little flexier. I haven't noticed any change in lateral stiffness after changing to the swinger shock.

My Ultra-modified K2 Attack 3.0..probably a 2003 but Im like the 7th owner of the frame.
My Old Pro-flex Reptile. Got it new for free from the LBS literally about 8 months ago.0 miles on it. Rode it, threw some marzocchis on it, folded the rear suspension in half. Didn't know sidewalks could do that to bikes.... Should have kept it stock for value's sake....

PS. I HATE THE ATTACK 3.0. Pedal bob is easy to avoid if you go into the largest chainring and stiffen up your rear shock. Not on this frame! Chainline changes so bad when compressed, Causes chain to f*** fall off. Being A bike mechanic new to riding dually's, I took this for a $30 steal and have been unimpressed.I have an Intense 5.5 EVP coming soon and I can't wait!

doug4sail
01-26-2007, 06:27 PM
Sorry to hear about that frame. Could you post a picture of the folded proflex? My Friend has one in her Garage its the 855 with the elastomers front and rear. I rode it, It seems efficient it never sees any jumps though her boyfriend got here a Salsa. I have a older Attack 3.0 I changed the rear shock for a Fox float with propedal and eliminated the bob and lightened it up. I havent had any shifting problems. The 5.5 is going to be nice ride.

Intense5point5
01-26-2007, 06:59 PM
Oh your gonna love this, The weak point was the point at which the would be "chainstay's" weakness was the attachment point to the rear elastomer bolt. It went from aluminum tubing, to SHEETMETAL, to the circular bolt cup. It broke there, bent the elastomers and bolts inwards and alligned the entire suspension assembly with the steeper section of the "seattube" I don't have a pic of the damage but I do have it sitting in my basement with a welded up temporary rear triangle replacement bolted to one of the bottle cage mounts. Its f***ing funny! I'll post a pic tomorrow if I can.

As for the attack 3.0, I put a RockShox Bar air shock from a defective Trek Fuel 80 Frame I had laying around from the ol' LBS. I weigh about 155 so Im a relative lightweight and just for the hell of it, I decided to pump up the Air shock to its maximum setting (180-ish psi) and then set it on its stiffest bound/rebound setting. After tightening all the bolts w/loctite and repacking the bushings and bearings with Phil Wood grease (as always) and every other little trick I can, I get on it, Pop it in the high chainwheel, pedal, and guess what! PEDAL BOB & FLEX.... I rode it around the bike shop and the wrenches (which means "mechanics" for you dentally mebilitated) say the chainstays are probably flexing or the suspension assembly is the worst (besides the Proflex Reptile) design in the history of Mankind. Im guessing its a bit of both. Being the seventh owner of the bike frame doesn't help much. No worries, The Intense 5.5 will save the day...(I hope...)

doug4sail
01-26-2007, 09:22 PM
I have a 2003 K2 with the same Geometry in the rear Triangle, Melanie Mequaid won her
first X-Terra Championships on this same K2 design. And then Won two more including this year. I wonder if the Carbon seatstays make that big of difference? That 5.5 got great reviews from the MBA guys.

Intense5point5
01-27-2007, 06:46 PM
Well, Geometry is much more important than the build materials ( Unless your comparing corrugated cardboard to scandium) but when it comes to carbon fiber, the way the frame behaves drastically changes. Not to mention that my frame is that of a $800 complete bike, and I am probably the 7th owner of the damned thing.Who knows why I get so much bad feedback from the frame. Im guessing its just on its last few good rides anyways. I've got DH cranks, a Sram hollow-pin chain, and an XTR cassette, and Sram X9 derailleur which pretty much eliminates the drivetrain being an issue..

Intense5point5
01-27-2007, 06:53 PM
Actually....Now that I looked at the photo of my Attack 3.0, The bad pedal feedback could be due to the steeper head tube angle caused by my Marzocchi Dirt Jump 2's w/ 130mm's travel (odd year) What else is funny is that my fork and frame cost me a total of $205. WOW.

doug4sail
01-28-2007, 12:30 AM
Yeah the fact that your Chain keeps jumping off under compression there is something

You also said you are new to riding dualies and I see you have heavy platform pedals, yeah? My guess (and this is only speculation) is that you mash the pedals which only exaggerates bob. My guess is that as you get more accoustomed to full suspension (and go clipless and develop better spin technique) you will get more used to the feel of FS.

Intense5point5
03-22-2007, 07:27 PM
Nope, I have some good experience riding, just not on a dualy. Turns out it was those pathetic truvative chainwheels from 03' to 05'. I replaced them with shimano deore chainwheels. No problems now. Oh yeah, And Im riding an Intense 5.5 evp so, im not doing to bad with the pedal bob issue. Oh yeah, doesn't crank brothers make egg beaters for mashing too? Platforms or clipless doesn't make a difference when you go all loco on your bike, out of the seat or not. I like platforms for now, Im used to them, and I've adapted accordingly! :-)

http://www.chaosmongers.org/marcel/bike/2007_K2_Razorback_RSX_2000/20070327_K2_Razorback_03_rear.jpg

Hello,
I've been reading this forum on and off for a while, since I bought a secondhand 2000 Razorback last year May. I guess it's time to do my first post here then .
5 months after buying it the frame cracked. It cracked at 3 different places. One crack along the weld between the top tube and the seat tube. Another crack along the weld at the seat tube and shock strut. And another one at the end of the seatstay. I guess it's partly because I was rather heavy a year ago, 94 kg, and still am relatively heavy, 82 kg now. I also tend to stay seated a lot of the time. Or the frame is just used up.
The LBS I bought it from had no replacement frame lying around and offered to have it welded. They have worked with a lot of K2 Razorbacks, and had a lot of them welded after they broke. When I told that newer Razorbacks had a bigger seattube, and an extra gusset between the top tube and seat tube, he said that newer frames would just crack halfway the seat tube.
Due to some complications it took 5 months to have it returned from the repair.
In the meanwhile I bought another bike, a 2006 Trek Fuel EX6 for a clearout price. It should be a little stronger, and since it's new it should be under warranty from the manufacturer, so it's a pretty good buy imo.
First time I rode the Razorback again was yesterday. After riding a much newer bike for some months I was afraid it would let me down, but I was rather satisfied after the ride. The Noleen rear shock doesn't handle multiple bumps very wel, it stutters on them, but apart from that it could handle the tracks very well. For here on the Dutch Veluwe it has enough travel.
Originally it came with a Noleen front shock as well, but I replaced it for a stiffer and newer Marzocchi MX Comp 85. It's a bit taller then the Noleen, so steering is a bit slower. Using a relative soft pressure makes the steering more then acceptable. It's much more point and shoot now then with the Noleen, which really wasn't stiff for my weight.
It could be that the frame is just used up. But if that's so, then it will break again, and force me to search another frame, or sell the parts. Time will tell, and paying attention and watching for new cracks will be needed.
Anyway, I do get a certain feeling when I look at, think of, or ride on my Razorback. I do think it's a goodlooking bike. I didn't think that way from the start. When I bought it I didn't think it was a really goodlooking bike, just about average. But in time some parts were changed and the only colors it now has are yellow, black and a bit of red. So much better then with the green tires and a silver stem for example. And I guess the bike just grew on me. I really don't have that kind of feeling for my Trek Fuel EX6, even though it rides better then my Razorback.
I was just wondering if more people had experience with cracked Razorbacks, and what happened with them.

GreenLightGo
03-28-2007, 08:25 PM
Looks good! How much does it weigh?

mpol
03-28-2007, 11:40 PM
Well, I tested it with the method of myself standing on a persons weight measurer with and without a bike, and it came out as 14 kg, the same as my Trek. It does feel a bit lighter then the Trek, I guess it's because of the lighter wheels, which make it accellerate a bit faster. And because of the lighter fork, which is around 1600 to 1700 grams. While the Tora on my Trek is a bit over 2 kg. This makes it a bit easier to pull it over a root
So when the frame is holding out, then there's enough to upgrade to make it lighter :). It's just that I don't have much budget for that, but I'll see what I can do.

You don't have the Noleen fork anymore either. Did it break, or was it a desired upgrade? Strange, some details are a little different. For example, your rear suspension has a white decal, while mine has a black decal.
Btw, at the end of the seatstay, it is painted black. Was it always like that?

Nice bike :)

hi

I think it is a large frame (it's height is about 47 cm).
you say that the razorback crake ? YES ! also mine and another...
You can see that the seatstays were repeinted in black, it's normal after it was re-welded !
but i love this bike. Before it, i owned a specilaized epic pro (10.8 kg / 23.76 lb). Yes, the epic was more performing (a little) but the k2 is smooth (for an xc bike) and the weight of mine is 11kg (24.2 lb). It 's really easy for climbing.
I replaced the noleen fork by this skareb spv because i think the noleen fork is not a good fork. It works only with air like white brothers and the rebound is too fast.

You can see it on this pic, before i upgrade the bike (fork, xtr dual control and v-brake ...)

Musky - first off - Welcome to MTBR and the K2 board. Second - nice machine! I love that color. K2 really hit the big homerun on color choices the past two years. That semi-gloss dull finish is killer too.

To drop weight from the bike, best place to focus is wheels/tires. It's pricey to get light on a bike but doable. If your terrain is dry, hardpacked or a little loose over hard - good tire options are the WTB Nanoraptor or Kenda Small Block 8 - both of which will be lighter than what you've got.

There are other lighter components out there too - seat posts, handlebars, etc. My recommendation is to just ride it for a while and get accustomed to it before making changes. Then, figure out which way you want to go and work towards that (i.e. light but durable and cheaper aluminum bits or really light and expensive carbon stuff).

here my 1998 K2 4000 Proflex with Noleen Cross-Link ELT smart shock on front and Easton carbon fiber swingarm with Noleen NR-4 on the rear. Titec 141 Enduro bars, Flite Gel Flow with Ti rails. One owner, had it since it was hatched. Kept it pretty stock except for the saddle. This thing has been great, no problems at all. Smart Shock still works. Originally bought it b/c I used to ride Girvins way back when, and then needed to replace them so just sold the old Fisher and bought the K2 b/c of the updated Cross-Link.

I think next is going to have to be wheels or at least a new rear hub. The 475 is about as low-end as you can get and it isn't holding up (been through two freehubs on different wheelsets now). That pic was after I turned the freehub into a fixie on that trail. The Sun Charger AM wheelset looks nice. :D

I taco'd my front rim in April during an ugly landing so ordered a set of Mavic XM321s laced to S'mano 525s. Rims are great but I've had to adjust the hubs a few times. I'm spoiled with Hope Pro2s on my SS so that's what I intend to get for my Lithium, laced to XM819s for true UST.

Since the K2 board is dead as of late I decided to post up my pic of my Attack. This is an old pic so it is missing the new wheelset, Rhynolites with XT hubs, and new pedals, Crank Bros. Acid 1s. This is my first full suspension, had a Specialized hardtail before this, and I have to say that I am enjoying it. My next upgrade will probably be the rear shock since this one has no rebound adjustment. If anyone has any other ideas let me know!

sorry guys but I need to find out the 2006 attacks eye to eye...shock size please

-R

thekid
03-22-2008, 04:09 AM
Eye to eye length is 165mm
End mount spacer = 22mm wide x 8mm ID
Body spacer = 30mm wide x 6mm ID
Shock stroke differs by size - SML & MED - 29mm, LRG & XLG - 38mm
Overall leverage ratios by size - SML & MED - ~3.1:1, LRG & XLG - ~ 2.5:1

As a result, the common 6.5" x 1.5" rear shock size usually works well on the LRG (490mm seat tube) & XLG (520mm seat tube) Attacks, given the correct end spacers.

You should be very careful if you are considering an upgrade to the rear shock of a SML (420mm seat tube) or MED (440mm seat tube) Attack. Because of the higher leverage ratio of these smaller sizes, a 6.5" shock with a standard 1.5" stroke has the potential to allow the linkage to move further than it was designed to, and possibly interfere with the rest of the frame as the rear shock approaches full travel. Obviously, this is potentially damaging to the bike & dangerous to the rider and is not recommended.

K2 Bike used a thicker rubber bottom-out spacer on the coil shocks of the two smallest sized Attacks to limit the stroke to 29mm/1.125" instead of the full 38mm/1.5". Of course, this is not nearly as easy to accomplish on an air shock. This is why recent Attack bikes were not specified with air shocks, yet some of the new Base series which has replaced the Attacks for 2008 are.

Hope this helps. Good luck, be careful, and happy trails!

BTW if anybody is thinking of buying a Fox fork I must say there service is great! Here is a pic of my 1995 K2 Hardtail. This was prior to the Pro-Flex merger/buy and I believe was one of K2's first attempts at MTN bikes. They offered 3 bikes that I know of... all hardtails....

A black version with mostly Shimano STX/LX components and cantilever brakes

The blue version I have with primarily all XT components (XT grip shift, V-brakes/levers, hubs, cassette, front-D, rear-D) and with a MAG21 front shock

And a gold version with primarily XTR components and with a Judy front shock

I have owned this bike since new when I purchased it in Germany at 18 years old while in the Army. I raced it in Europe back then and have ridden it hard all over Europe and the U.S. over the past 12 - 13 years. I have serviced the shocks here and there, and have upgraded the stem/bars/seat (a while back obviously) and added some odds and ends... but I believe I'm still on the original chain and I finally just changed the inner brake and D cables for the first time last week due to fraying and broken outer cables. It doesn't skip and the head, bracket, pedals are all still tight as new. I have jumped it in lakes, ridden streets, up and down stairs, even down the Lincoln Memorial stairs in DC. I have hammered out the original Mavic rims with a hammer so many times (and filed off the burrs) it's not funny. Countless thousands of miles and sets of tires and this thing is still kicking strong. I take it to Dupont State Forest (among other places) nearly every weekend and put a pounding on it.

This bike is bullet-proof and I will never get rid of it for another hardtail (although I will surely upgrade it). I'm sure I'll get a full suspension as my body starts giving out but until then... OLD BLUE!
