View Full Version : Felt 29er's coming
Rob M. 09-23-2006, 09:17 PM Well it's official, Felt Bicycles will be showing three 29" wheel bikes at Interbike. The photo I attached is of a prototype that was built and has been riddin by the guys at Felt for some time. Like I said Felt will be introducing three bikes with 29" wheels, two geared bikes the Nine Elite at $1449.00 and the Nine Pro at $1969.00. They will also be offering a single speed the Nine Solo at $1449.00. I for one am really excited about this as I have been bugging the guys to enter the 29" wheel market for the last three years. I should add that all 3 bikes will be suspension correct and come with suspension forks. The proto was rigid.
donkey 09-23-2006, 09:41 PM Great news Rob. I'm sure ya'll will put out a great product. I'll be sure to stop by at the show and check them out.
Hope things are well for you and your family in your new location.

miles 09-23-2006, 10:27 PM Carbon stays? Nice. Is it the same Scandium frame of the RXC?
By the way, I haven't seen you or the family at any events recently. How are you two and you teeny one doing?

Rob M. 09-23-2006, 10:50 PM Hey Miles,
How is it going? The Fam and I are doing great, we moved to Idaho. We are expecting another member to the family. As for the bikes, they will not be Scandium and I am not certain on the stays. The bike pictured is Scandium with the carbon stays and weighs ( I think) 19.5lbs. I know it's under 20lbs.
Cloxxki 09-24-2006, 04:15 AM Awesome, 3 models!
Does the German office know about this? Do they even approve? :nono:
Green...too many 29"ers are green...I already own two, and didn't have a choice!
Check out this (I think) Sept 2002 Eurobike pic I took. No-One at the Felt booth had ever heard of the 29" denomination. They just built a proto around the 28x2.35" Schwalbe Big Apple. Never actually offered a bike that fit it, for some reason. How hard can it be? Multiple Euro brands now have such bike, among them Storck and Giant.
Will these 29"ers be offered in Europe (asking for the obvious...) :madman:
Rob M. 09-24-2006, 07:01 AM Cloxxki,
The bike you have pictured is one of the trekking frames that has the clearence because it comes with fenders. I have one of those frames in the garage that I am going to build up someday for my father in law. The bikes will come in 3 different colors, Solo=Flat Rootbeer, Pro=Jeffe Green, and the Elite will be PD Grey. The Green is the same as the picture I posted and I think it looks great. As of now I don't think they will be offered in Europe, but you know how it works. If they think there is a need they will probably try to fill it.
Cloxxki 09-24-2006, 07:11 AM Are fatty-prepared trekking bikes already offered? I could not find one at Eurobike this or last year,
Rob M. 09-24-2006, 07:12 AM No, they are not offered.
1 Speed 09-24-2006, 09:31 AM No, they are not offered.
What's up with no one even attempting to enter the Euro market with 29'ers? For those of us that ride them and know their benefits, it's really annoying that all these various companies sell bikes in the states that we can't get in Europe?
Cosmic (in Germany) sells Salsa & Surly, Fisher had one model and that's about all I know. I can, in theory, order stuff, but it's a royal pain in the butt!
Well, thanks Felt for doing something, but please sell them over here where we NEED them! ;-P
Cloxxki 09-24-2006, 09:43 AM Orbea doesn't sell their 29"ers in homeland Europe.
However, On-One in the UK does, although I'm not sure about the Europe part...
They do golf for the European team in the ryder cup, I can see on the tele right now :-)
There's also Ridgeback in the UK for entry-level bikes.
Nishiki seems mostly gone or hidden in Scandinavia.
Superior in the Czech republic has a couple 29"ers listed.
BeOne offers or offered some big-clearance trekking bikes.
But not much good stuff indeed. So much more to see at Interbike than Eurobike for us...
mward 09-24-2006, 01:01 PM Wow, they're not singlespeeds.
*Faint*
willtsmith_nwi 09-24-2006, 07:42 PM Good to see Felt is throwing their hat in the ring. It will be good to have more than one 29er option available in my area.
Now we have to get FELT to stop shipping EVERYTHING with Shimano shifting.
GlowBoy 09-25-2006, 01:28 PM Cloxxki,
The bikes will come in 3 different colors, Solo=Flat Rootbeer ... I don't think they will be offered in Europe ...Not with a color named "Rootbeer" anyway. Europeans don't know what that is.:D
willtsmith_nwi 09-25-2006, 07:27 PM Not with a color named "Rootbeer" anyway. Europeans don't know what that is.:D
Just say "extra stout" instead.
kawarider 09-26-2006, 05:38 AM Thanks for posting the new Felt 29er. Any more pics of of the new Felts? I know they will have the FW road series for women... will there be an FW mountain series?
Rob M. 09-26-2006, 01:59 PM As far as I know Felt will not be introducing a women specific mountain frame any time soon. Although as I said about the Europeans if they think there is a market I am sure they will try to fill it.
When Felt was talking about introducing the 29er a few of us were in agreement that there needed to be more geared bikes, and separate single speed frames. Not another frame that was single, geared, disc, v-brake. So the single speed is single speed only and the geared is geared only, both will be disc only. I am pretty excited to see them, mabey today but if not tomorrow for sure.
I wanted to add that I was at Dirt Demo yesterday and I saw big wheels every where, it was so cool. I do think this is the year of the 29er.
Viszla 09-27-2006, 06:35 PM No 29ers showing up on the 2007 Web Page? We can we expect them?
Rob M. 09-30-2006, 07:53 PM Unfortunatly the samples just arrived right before Interbike so they have not taken pictures of the bikes yet. I am sure that iit s on the To Do list, but after Interbike the To Do list is long. Please be patient they will make it on the websight.
Rob M. 10-05-2006, 08:17 AM Well the Felt guys are back and in the office hard at work catching up after Interbike. So I call and request some pictures of the Nine Pro and Nine Elite for you all to see. I really did'nt see any good pictures from the show. Enjoy.

BigLimey 10-13-2006, 11:52 AM that would defiantly cure Rob of his Drop bar fixation...
thelastbard 10-13-2006, 04:48 PM Mmmm, these are quite nice - and at great price points too. Now if I could just get a good dealer near me...
Anybody know if Felt went with the new quick & fast geo, or more of the traditional head angles?
BigLimey 10-13-2006, 04:53 PM Long low fast....72.5H/73.5S with low bb and long TT and short rear end.....
furious george 10-14-2006, 12:01 PM Lime,
Now all we need to do now is cure Rob of his "flex stem" affliction.:yikes:
Farmer_John 10-15-2006, 05:16 AM Long low fast....72.5H/73.5S with low bb and long TT and short rear end.....
I'm liking the sound of this one! Glad the powers that be steepened it up a bit.

I think the idea was to make it too fast for Rob to ride....Socal steepies don't seem to like the tall relaxed thing...
