Looking at applying for a job there and before I even submit my resume I'd like to know if I'm going to be able to ride w/o having to drive very far or if I going to go nuts. Also, what about places to snowboard? what's close? Any help appreciated.

The closest good riding would probably be Wompatuck in Hingham lots of good XC stuff - rooty with some rocky areas. Probably a 10-15 minute drive from Braintree. There's great rocky riding at Borderland in Easton and at F. Gilbert in Foxboro; they're probably both a 20 minute drive. Blue Hills is probably within 10-15 minutes of Braintree and I've heard good things about it there, but you can't ride year round. Pine Hills in Plymouth and Trail of Tears just over the bridge in Barnstable are great rides - smoother with a lot of rolling terrain, but now you're talking a drive of at least 45 minutes.

Check the trail reviews on this site, and of course, mapquest.com will give you an idea of how far away places are. If you're relocating to Braintree, my next question would be when you won the lottery. Your typical single family home in Braintree probably runs from $350,000 to $500,000.

I had a feeling it was somthing like you say. Glad I didn't apply yet. Guess I'll have to stick out a bit longer here in AZ where I can ride from my house to a nice trail system and enjoy my 2K sq ft house for less than half of the cheaper ones there. Thanks for the info.

Housing prices out here are nuts. You can't find a 1500 sq ft house with 3 br and 1.5 ba for under 300K. Anything that size for 300 to 350K either needs serious work, or is in a terrible location or more likely both. Lots of other expenses to0. Tough to insure a car for less than a grand a year. If you're happy out there, I'de recommend staying there. Ride year round.

The upside is we have the ocean, great riding, and Snowboarding within a couple hours. the riding here is definitely different than western riding. its not like you are out climbing mountains in Mass but the terrain is still awesome. Its very populated here but luckily people have set aside open space to RIDE. You may not be able to ride "comfortably" all year round here but how often can you ride in the summer in AZ? I guess everything is a trade off. If the Job is a good one don't hesitate to at least check it out.
