View Full Version : Calf injury.
Cucurko 08-08-2006, 08:46 AM Hello,
I get this injury for a second time. First it happened last year. In the begging it was a weak pain in the upper part of the calf, which I was feeling only when riding. I didn't take care of it, because it wasn't strong. But a weak later suddenly it became so strong, that i could even step on the pedal. I take a rest for two-three weeks and it passed away. But now it happend again. I stopped riding imediately after i felt it, so i thougt that I'll heel faster, but two weeks passed awready and there's no effect. I even feel a very weak pain while am sitting on a chair, which wasn't happening last year. There is no pain if i touch it. I ride easy at least 15 minutes before every ride. Do you know what could i be, and what should i do? Last year the doctor just touched my leg and told me to take rest, but as i said I'm resting for two weeks and it's not getting better.
Motivated 08-09-2006, 01:53 PM You need to get a referral for an Orthopedic doctor. The GP's generally don't know squat - they are just a filter and the #1 thing on their mind is cost. Try to be scientific - measure both calves, how much weight can you push with each, exactly where does it hurt, when, etc. Does anti-inflamitory (i.e. 2weeks of Naproxen) help?
Anyway, it sounds like you tore a ligament or a muscle and if so will take 3-6 months to heal and after a year what you get is what you get for life.
You may also need to go to sports medicine specialist which you will likely have to pay for yourself. They usually advertise at running, triathlon events.

oscarc 08-09-2006, 04:02 PM Sounds like a bike set up issue. Seat might be too high causing over extension. Check your height. follow the link below, starting from you cleat adjustments. Use the Lemond Method to double check your bike set.

Cucurko 08-09-2006, 10:46 PM Thank you,
I went to Orthopedic doctor and he told me to rest a little bit more. Next week I'll go to a sports Orthopdedic doctor, i was told da he is a vet good specialist, but now he's having vacation. I'll read the aritcle about the seat hight, but I don't think that this is the problem, because last time when it happend i was riding a different bike, and i have never pulled op my saddle so that i can extend fully my leg.
oscarc 08-10-2006, 10:46 AM Ok good luck.

Be careful with this, the measurements are not something even the best can eyeball. You can be off by a couple of cm or mm and this could be enough to cause leg trouble. Use a tape measure to confirm. Not to be taken lightly if you want to ride with out pain.
Thank you,
