Texas doesn't have the kind of publicly-owned and trashable land to support that sort of riding. bpatterson6 07-27-2004, 03:38 PM I am born and raised in Austin. Lived there until '96. My mom still lives there and my wife, kids and I visit often. There are more than enough places for FR/DH. Problem is, like the guy said above. It is all privately owned. People get all sketchy when your on their property. Not mention you might get your azz shot off but some gun toting yeehaw for being on his land. Organized Urban, XC, or Road Riding is about it. That's too bad. There could be some of the baddest, knarliest FR/DH trails around in Central Texas. For instance, In City Park you could build some killer FR/DH with some North Shore thrown in, but that would draw traffic and cause all those people by lake austin to cry. Another problem is..Like everything thing else. The City (Council) Seems to find any reason they can to ruin a good time. ie: Aqua Festival, Freedom Fest, and all the good times that used to be had down near Zilker Park and around the city laying down any type of crappy azz excuses such as Noise ordinances and etc. Austin can be a great time town and should be as beautiful as it is. Last time I was down, I went to Flat Rock Creek in Comfort. It Sucked. No shuttling and having to Pedal a heavy azz FR/DH all the way to the top of the hill. But honestly it wasnt too bad coming down. Not bad DH for Texas. They should allow people to shuttle. You have to get permission at the comfort place. Thats the best way to get decent FR/DH around Texas without any lifts. |
