Got myself some XTR shifters the other day and when putting the cables in I came accross something strange.
When the cables are not installed the 9 speed shifts 8 times which is what I would expect. However, when I install the cable the 9 speed shifter will only shift 7 times.The problem seems to be when it gets accross to the left side when it seems to get jammed and can't move any further left. Obviously it is jamming on the cable or the lug on the end of the cable. Is this something very normal and I am missing something??? :confused:

Might not have explained this well enough.
I have installed the cable through the shifter body but have not attached the other end to anything yet.
Is this the problem??
Will it sort itself out once attached and under tension????

Maybe: when you shift are you holding tension on the cable with your other hand? If not, the cable may be backing out as you shift, or coming loose inside the shifter.

Yes, have done that, cannot notice that the cable is backing out.
