does anyone have any recommendations for a good bike shop/mechanic in NYC?

I have had BAD experiences at:

Sids( they destroyed a JR.T of mine with their inept rebuilding skills.)

Bayridge: they did a terrible job installing my SRS chainguide and the top roller got mangled as a result.

I know noplace is fool proof, but it seems like alot of these so called premeir places arent really equipped to handle todays modern mt bike technology, and they are just trying to cash in.

Most bike mechanics are hourly employees. Some can't even understand the manuals. My preference are small bike shops where you can deal with the owner one on one. At Peak you have a one man shop run by an owner who rides the latest gear. Give it a shot, and I belive you will be pleased with the service. You can check out my post on the bike shop.

You should Racer's Edge in Brooklyn a completely new shop, built by riders and owned by one of top bike mechanics in the NYC, Gerald. He wont steer you wrong, just give him a call, 718-531-3100.
