If I could have my vintage mtb's sleep in the same bed with me I'd do it too.
My lovely bride to be, however, is really good about all my bike stuff....I wouldn't want ot push it.

That Salsa looks like a perfectly built bike! Clean lines, balance.

I think I need to put some risers on, there isnt enough height, and the bar ends were getting in my way.... also the tyres didnt respond too well to the mud at the weekend, I let some air out and then got a snakebite, luckily it took me all of a minute due to the fact the tyres come off in your hands!

remeber seeing a black w/ gold flecks(?) painting in 96 that was... oh so beautifull!

note the salsa stem, got it on ebay and can't figure out a use for it. Its for 1 1/8 threaded steerers, and has a negative rise to it, 25.4 bar clamp. I can't see myself ever using the damn thing (at my height) unless I manage to find a very old 23 or 25" sized frame with a really tall headtube.

Maybe I can make a lamp out of it or something....

as far as I know, its a 1987, custom colour/paint, custom geometries, Sean Mayer built it, and the frame no. is SM237 - Salsa themselves counldnt really corroborate as they didnt keep recordss that far back (now thats a Company I could work for!)

I think I am going to have to put some risers on it though, the bars are wat too narrow and low to really get the most out of it...

upgrades in the future: McMahon Ti Stem, IRD Ti Forks, maybe some QR skewers rather than Bolts, and some wider Ti bars if I can find any.... she's a peach though....

Where are the serial numbers located on a Salsa? I took a quick look at one for sale in my neighborhood tonight (too quick, unfortunately) and couldn't see any obvious number. The frame is TIG'd, primary green in color with the Pepperman ("If it ain't moto ... it's worthless!") decal on the headtube and a large Grateful Dead sticker covering most of the down tube (so I couldn't tell if there was a "Salsa" decal there). Rigid fork. Mostly Shimano Exage components with XT thumbies (XT II maybe?) and Specialized cranks (kind of a nested "SS" logo). The date codes I could see in the fading light were "Q D" (1992?) on the front derailleur and "I-10" and "E-7" on the crank arms.

The Exage level components seem a bit out of place. Any specific clues I should look for to confirm that this is truly a Salsa frame? I'll try to get a photo or two in the next few days. The paint, decal and components all seem to be in great shape and it's my size. He was asking $125 for it, so I'd hate to pass it up it it's what I think it is.

Any help (or close detail photos of a similar Salsa of that era) would be appreciated.

I doubt it is a Salsa Bob.My Ala Carte is a 90' and looks completly different.The serial# should be on the bottom of the bb shell on the non drive side.Should have Ritchey drops,foward slotted seat tube w/ a flip lock seat collar,down tube gusset at the head tube and no rear canti stop.A threaded eyelet was braised onto the seat tube for an after market cable stop.Also,the tube spec looks a bit large and the rack mounts on the seat stays might be wrong.

Was following the Salsa bargain thing on the VATB thread, been a bit busy though, Ross is a really nice guy, which is cool cos he was always one of my hero's (and invariably you get let down by your heroes...)

I would have another in a heartbeat, mine is lovely, and I'm never selling it. I think it will proibably get parts swapped around on it a lot in the future though, kind of a testing bed for new stuff...
