Dave Yates has been building bikes for years. They supply the materials, generally reynolds. They have 853 steel :).
I have been thinking about what to do for a winter hardtail (when winter comes again) that I can transfer my FSR bits onto (suss isn't necessary when you are sliding about in mud). When you look at some of the frame prices over here they are not much cheaper than what this course cost, in some case the course is cheaper. An 800 dollar Evil bikes Sovereign frame cost 850 british pounds over here!!! And thats with dollar in my favour, 800 dollars is about .450 pounds at the monent...even after shipping and taxes thats a big price hike (although I admit they prbably bought the fames over when the dollar was a bit stronger....but its still a bike hike...any way thats another issue.
Anyways...this way I can build a bike that I designed and built. So far my design wants are Rohloff specific drop outs, can take my 130mm travel fork, planty of mud clearance (chain stays taken as wide as possible sooner, as the rohloff only uses a 38 tooth ring in the big ring location), and have a quite a sloping top tube and possibly curvy stays for asthetics.
What do ya think?
