I'm riding an '04 Apogee and It never felt like it was getting the 5" of travel that it is supposed to. I finally measured it recently and found that it is only getting 3.5" of verticle rear wheel movement. Anybody else have similar findings?

I think the frame is capable but either shock or the link isn't ?

please dont quote on that though...

If that's the case then I guess they shouldn't advertise it as a 5" travel bike.

Has anybody played around with the linkage to alter the travel?

The 2004 & 2005 Apogees were not advertised as having 5" travel. The 2006's are. They have 7.5" x 2" stroke shocks (vs.6.5" x 1.5" stroke on the previous MY's) and revised mounting position that extends rear travel to 5". The 2004's & 2005's can be retrofit with a longer shock (not so on 2002 & 2003 Apogees), though you'd have to find an appropriate shock elsewhere. We will not have them available separate from the bikes.

Is the linkage the same on the 06 vs the 05?

I need to appologize for a mistake I made in the original post. I stated that the '04 Apogee frame was advertised as a 5" travel frame when, in fact, it was not. Sorry for any confusion!

Hey, we all make mistakes (see my tag line) but it takes a man of character to admit them. Like Jack said, you should be able to swap shocks to accommodate the 5" travel. If indeed a 7.5 X 2 shock will do that, I can assure you it's a common size. I would recommend looking into a Fox Vanilla R. You can typically find them new on ebay fairly cheap. Hopefully the reducers (or spacers) that came with the original shock will fit the new shock. if not, you will have to do some leg work to find a set that will work.

Best wishes.

I picked up a 7.5" shock as suggested by the guys at Ibex and it worked like a charm. It gave me 5" of travel as promised. Thanks for the help Ibex and sorry for the hassel I caused you previously!
