I just moved to Eugene and my bro is coming to visit in late April. We are planning on riding the MRT. If we wanted to shuttle (that NW beer is has not been easy on my figure) where would you recommend we park? I understand the top of the trail is above town. How far? I'm planning on picking up a map (if available) but just wanted a little input. Thanks.

Neither End is anywhere close to Eugene (biking wise). You'll need 2 vehicles, leave one at the lower trailhead (below Paradise campground) then drive on up to the upper trailhead (above Clear lake.. ~25 miles or so). NW Forest passes are required on the MRT so if you don't have them pick up a day pass at GI joes or a similar place.

Check out "Shades of Blue (and Green)" post here or in Passions for pics of our ride last Sunday. Was my first time there and had a blast. Contact the Diciples of Dirt MTB club in Eugene and some one should be able to give you good directions

GumbyRat--
I founded the Disciples of Dirt MBC here in Eugene 17 years ago. Have you signed up on our listserv?

A buddy and I rode 35 miles on the MRT last Saturday. It's b!tchin' right now. There were patches of lingering snow between Sahalie Falls and Koosah Falls but they were insignificant so by the time you get there you'll probably be able to ride without interruption. Even if you still have to portage, it ain't much. There's a lot of water going over the falls right now -- way beauty.
If you want to do all 26 miles (one way), you've heard the best suggestion. Two cars, one at the lower trailhead and one at the upper. But you'll add a couple hours of travel time doing this plus you and your bro will have to drive up and back in separate cars. I recommend an out & back. Park at either Deer Creek or Trailbridge Reservoir, then ride upstream to the falls (or all the way around Clear Lake), then back downstream to your buggy. You'll cream the best singletrack (though 100% of the MRT pegs the worthymeter), plus you'll avoid the logistical troubles I mentioned.
Best yet, get on the DOD listserv and ask an experienced guide to join you. You'll make a new friend(s) and learn some stuff about the awesome MRT that you weren't even aware you wanted to know.
When ya goin'?
