Found this on the DH forum. I have been tossing aroung the same idea but thought of using a Manitou slider with SPV. 34-36lbs sould be possible while still retaining a decent level of durability. What do you think? Have you seen the pic in MBA of the Dare Mark Weir rode at Downieville? I would sure like to know the geometry specs on that thing with the 5" Fox on the front!

Ok, so I'm thinking about getting an Ellsworth Dare as my main bike. I hear there is an alternate rear swing arm that is more "XCish". My question for anyone with knowledge is this. It looks like I could build this bike with a Boxxer and still weigh in around 32-35 pounds. My Dawg weighs in at 31 pounds. Could I use the Dare as an all purpose bike to include XC? With all the Stable Platform shocks now it almost seems doable. What do you think?

Mark says the head angle on his Dare is 67.5 with the Talas 125, some good discussion of his bike in the DH/FR forum. Shoot him an email, he is very helpful.

I own a 2000 dare and it is set up as a Light Freeride Bike. I currently have it down to 29 pounds with a Z1 FR SL fork. The bike also has the XC rear although I am only running one chainring at the moment. I am not sure about the weight of the 2001+ model. I do know that my frame and rear shock comes in at 9.5 pounds. If you want more detail, you can check the reviews on the Dare.

The bike is light enough to climb any hill. Going down, no 23-25 pound bike can keep up and only fear controls the speed you can descend.

I do not know about putting a 5in. fork on that bike. Let's not forget why Mr Weir set up his bike like he did. ;) ;) I must have stared at the pic for an hr. thinkin' : poor frame

My '02 has a stratos 6o7 on it and has been doing excellent on the trails. I think t's hovering around 36-37 lbs, but who gives a damn. It's a freekin' Dare :D it rides like a champ :p :D

it's pretty much up to you if it is a do it all bike. If u can ride xc trails on a 37lb. bike and enjoy it (like many of us) then HELL YA'.

I have been riding a 02 dare for six months now.I also have a ID and never ride it anymore
because the dare is so much fun to ride! I had a 5 inch sherman on it and the switch to
a slider plus. I use it for all types of riding!!!
