I was able to watch a catastrophic wreck on my behalf yesterday. It was almost flattering. I was riding along a semi-frequently ridden trail at a popular trail system in my area. I was wearing one of those jerseys that just make you feel cute...just the right cut, the color, and braided pigtails...I may not have looked like I was intending to get sloppy muddy although I already was. The site distance on this trail was quite a ways since it was a goat trail on a fairly straight hill side, although I know how I can sometimes be zoned out. This fellow kept getting closer and closer until I saw him look up real quick to see someone coming his way. After that very split second his handle bars caught a tree and he went flailing over the side of his bike, arms flapping, heels kicking, unclipping so that his bike started on down the hill a little. Besides crashing, I think he was a little embarrassed that it was obvious I'd broken his concentration. I hate that I was probably the cause of his only crash that day, and fortunately he was okay, but I giggled about it for quite some time after I'd gone on down the trail.

A certain mtb guy, who shall remain nameless to protect the ego, was trying to show off when he first met me. I've forgotten exactly what he did, a little jump maybe, but he veered off the trail, careened into the woods out of control, and smacked into a big tree 20 feet off trail, taking the brunt of the impact on the shoulder. Of course he pretended he wasn't hurt and kept riding. We laugh about it now.
