Do any of you guys find the fact that there is a separate clydes category to be insulting?
Sure you can argue that a 140lb weight weenie can churn up hills better than a 220lb freight train. But is the speed margin actually that big?
I race regular categories as in my area there are no clydes categories and I find that I can keep up with the wiry little bikers just fine. When it comes to technical/aggressive terrain i can smoke any sub 190lb rider simply because i can churn out that much more horsepower. Perhaps the clyde category should be considered a beginner/sport level category?
Any ideas?

I agree with you to a certain extent, but I know when Itell people I MTB regularly they look me up and down and try to figure out how I get on a bike... yeah I'm big, 6 foot and change, 250 and dropping, but they still to single you out.
As far as out powering the wieght weenies, yeah I hear ya... I can out climb many weight weenies on an FS... it seems the smaller guys are on the FS' and they can't climb with them very well. Mind you yes I do wish Iwas smaller but hey its the way I am , and thats that. I think this foruem is great, because at one time or another we have been looked at by the " model mountain biker" as a wanna be rider. I ride wit hmy wife who is extremely small, and there are hills that she nor I can climb because they are simply a cliff basically. I carry my bike and hers up the hill at the same time... lets see a little guy carry his FS up the side of a steep incline a couple hundred feet up.

If you want to race Clyde, race Clyde. If you're insulted, race in a regular catagory. Does this really offend you?
